    [Misc] 6054ci Series Hard Disk

Hoping someone has good news regarding this.

Instead of ordering the HD-15 (320GB HDD) at €300, can you just use any 2.5" SATA hard drive of the same capacity?

In the US it looks like it comes as standard with the machines, not in the Ire/UK as far as I can tell.

    Thanks

We have only replaced one on any 4 series machines and it didn't fix it. It turned out to be a faulty sata cable. We have had several since present with HDD errors and I have replaced the cable and had good success.

Thanks Lunatech. The actual hard disk though - is it just a 320GB Seagate/Crucial/Toshiba/WD etc?

Don't have a problem with one, just wondering if I buy a €40 off the shelf drive and fit it, will it work!?

As long as the harness and mount are there, it should work. I know they come standard in the US market, but not on the EU machines. FYI if you use one out of another machine, it has to be formatted on a workstation before installing it.
        Hope that helps !

That might be an issue, looking at the install guide. The HD-15 looks like it comes with a mounting kit/bracket and 2 cables. I am assuming these are standard SATA data and power cables?

Not sure. I know some of the small machines that you add a HDD to, it goes into the optional slot, so you need the mounting bracket with the connector.
On a side note, we vacationed (holiday) in Ireland last spring. We had a great time, saw a beautiful country and everyone there was welcoming and warm. Just an awesome place.
            Hope that helps !

Usually a hard drive is a hard drive. On Sharps and Ricohs we threw in 500 gig drives we got from a local computer shop that refurbed laptops and put in SSD drives. They had piles of these things.

They never cared when we put them in. Factory drive was 320 gig. The machine just makes a partition the size it wants.
