[Jamming] Jam 4211 on Ecosys M2640idw

    Hello everyone,

I am by no means any formal background in printers other than knowing the security risk they can pose on the network and have only been at this job a couple of months. However, our managed print service folded and for the time being we are left without service on what I believe are some poorly maintained devices.

Currently I have two of our four M2640idws experiencing the same set of jams. Most prominently JAM 4211 on one device 30 times in the past week and an eye boggling 128 times at a satellite office (Just got word it was having issues last week that it's been going on for months).

I have cleared the jams from the machines multiple times and made sure the tray and command center print settings are both set to A4 standard normal weight white paper. Almost without fail it will jam in the next 5 minutes of looking at it to no rhyme or reason. Before the MPS folded they were out and looked at the device one last time and said the rollers were fine about 2 weeks ago. Additionally, I have checked the local computers drivers and updates as well and they all seem up to date but cannot seem to crack why the jams keep occurring in the unit.

Any help would be a huge and greatly appreciated.

The fusing unit needs replaced. It's common on these units.
    Hope that helps !

Is this usually an easier repair or something I should likely convince my company we should find a professional for?

Fuser is not hard to replace in that model. Corner covers on both sides of the rear of the machine will have to come off. Remove the rear door, and four screws hold the fuser in. There is one other cover with two screws that will have to be removed to access the two connectors that have to be unplugged. Just a side note, we have had a lot of success with putting the printer in quiet mode in order to stop the jamming until the fuser can be replaced. This is a temporary fix, but on many of these machines, it will stop the jamming until the replacement fuser comes in. Just a note, the printer will print slower in the quiet mode.

Will have to give this a try. I like the cost of a new fuser unit instead of looking at buying a new machine.

I suppose an additional troubleshooting question I have is noticing the streaks on the paper alongside these jams. This is likely further indication that there is something wrong with the fuser?

That is what I am thinking the solution is going to be but first I will have to get through the red tape of upper management but I believe they will like the cost option of a new fuser kit than the cost of a new MFP.

And with these particular units I have not actually experienced any security risks or concerns. None of our Kyocera machines thankfully have, but having multiple offices and info sharing over a shared network and allowing some users to print remotely has always been a challenge for the open ports, but *knock on wood* I have not seen any concerns with our current fleet other than a newer HP MFP. However, that employee concern was quickly squashed after I checked the log and realized the culprit was a work from home user printing a ream worth of personal documents.

There is a youtube vidio on how to remove a felt pad and re lubricate to make the fuser run again. I have done 3. 2 worked the other one I broke during dissasembly.

This is great feedback everyone. Getting eyes on the unit in a few hours and then will provide further feedback and likely submit our required requisition form to get the fusers ordered.

It's really hard for me to believe that these have been out for 6 years, and they still do not have the issue resolved.
