Insert a tapping screw to hold it in. Not worth buying a new one unless you can warranty.

It's a plastic hook that catches on a plastic ridge, it can only be cycled a few times before they won't latch together. After that just do what you did or replace the dev unit.

I'd have to look it up, but I seem to remember that the developer units with the gray button are are no longer being made.

I do believe one can replace them with the newer developer units that go in the xxx3 models that do not have that grey button that will fail.

I think it's too late for this answer, but:
You can't use dv from new Iris because now it's real dual component instead of touch down developing.
Use the screw fix or mount new dv.

By all means, do as KYO_OEM has suggested.

For future reference, I would like to call your attention to the attachment I have added. It is from page 7 of the latest version of Tech Bulletin 1 for the xxx3 series. In the middle of the page under the heading "MAINTENANCE KIT YIELDS & COST PER PAGE" written in blue is "* MK Kits are backwards compatible with the 6052ci Series". To me that means that developer units for the xxx3 series (DV-8560x) can be used in the place of developer units for the xxx2 series (DV-8550x).

Don't take my word for it, check with your local Kyocera service rep to verify.

This has been a big help for me as I only carry one type of dev unit for the 2s and 3s.

Simple fix. Find an old KM model that the front cover was held with magnets. Remove and take magnet assy apart. (plastic holder). Discard holder. Open Imaging cover. Then place magnet on the metal plate that dropped down with the cover. Align with DV button, close cover. It will force dv button in when cover is close and locked. I have 4 or 5 machines in field set up like this when those buttons pop and wont hold any longer, plus FREE FIX!!!!

                      @Samanator,
Mk-A+B are contains DK units only!
Still DK-8550 for old and newer systems.
DV units are not downwards compatible, because of new developing system in xxx3 systems.
Now it's real dual component without sleeve rollers!

I've had this issue multiple times, if you can't warranty the part I have been removing the spring attached to the 'push button', the only thing you have to remember is to install the dev and drum units together as to not damage the drum, you'll never hear from the machine again concerning this problem.

                            You are right.
I am sorry for my mistake.
At the moment i create tech. docs for xxx4 series, training docs for xxx4 series, creating docs for Victoria...(150ppm inkjet)
                            i need vacation, i think.
You can use dv-8560 for xxx2 and xxx3 series, of course!!
dv-8550 you can use for xxx2 only.

                              Just to follow up.

Been a little busy so I haven't post the results of putting a DK-8560K into a 3552ci. I put in on Friday and ran all the image adjustments one should after replacing a sub assembly (U140, U464, U469, U410) as prescribed by Kyocera. I then put it where we have a 4550ci we use as the general office printer. It has been getting a bit of a workout and is looking good.

I going to give it a couple more days then move it onto the sales floor and signal it is good for sale.
