    Kyocera CS 8002i Exit/Switchback Unit

    Hi everyone!

Can anyone shed some light on an issue with this series machine? While in Duplex mode, sometimes the very first print, stops dead still just inside the Exit Unit, some call the Switchback unit. Also, I notice a dark, hard substance build-up on the rollers in this unit, which has been a good sign just before replacing the unit itself, as this substance is very difficult to get at, and clean off.

The sensors on this unit are easy enough to clean, however, they can still be "flagged" in the Maintenance Mode. So, my question is, is it a late response on the sensors, or the build-up of substance on the rollers that cause this jamming issue?

A lot of the schools I service run thousands of duplex "packs" at one sitting, and Switchback units don't last long because of this jamming issue.

    Any thoughts?

High volume machines will wear down the tips of the sensor flags in the switchback unit and throw off the timing.

That same exit flag is used in all the high speed Alphards, monochrome and color:
        KM-6500i, KM-6501i, KM-6551ci, KM-7002i, KM-7003i, KM-8000i, KM-8001i, KM-8002i, KM-8003i, KM-8551ci

        You'll see jam codes:
        J0000
        J4603, J4604, J4613, J4614, J4616
        J4911, J4912, J4913, J4914, J4915, J4916

        It will take:
1.2M to 2.3M prints before you start to see those jams (though I've seen it start at 850K prints).
I've seen other failures on the exit section, but this flag accounts for most of them.

Replace exit sensor flag (302K928121), and return spring (302K928190).

        Thanks, darry. =^..^=

        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.

This MacGuyver outlasts a new actuator:

Here's the difference between a worn one and a new one.
              Hope that helps !
