Kyocera P2040 slow speed and jamming from multipurpose tray

Hello, my p2040 is printing perfectly well at normal speed and no jams when the paper feed is from cassette 1, however when the paper feed is from the multipurpose tray, the feed is always slow, ie half speed, and then paper jams, either when the leading edge enters the fuser rollers, or when the leading edge hits the exit sensor. I have checked for any snags downstream from the multipurpose tray. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated!

As the speed goes, check what media type is set for the multipurpose tray. The heavier media type purposely slows down the process to fuser heavier media. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

      Hello Blackcat,
Many thanks, yes the mp tray paper was set to "thick" (just like my brain)! The mp tray is now feeding at normal speed. However the paper is still jamming as it enters the fuser rollers. So I think I need to lubricate the fuser film. I'll give that a try.

      thanks again,

      Russell

You might want to check and see if the MP tray is set to a certain paper size. And make sure the paper size you are running is the size that is set for the MP tray.

I haven't looked it up, but if the MP tray can be set to Auto, that's probably where you might want to set it.

        Just a thought.

We service hundreds of these printers. My advice is to always have fusers in stock because they only last about 40K prints. If the drum unit feels heavy when you're there to replace the fuser, go ahead and replace that too. The next call will be for a C7990 because the waste portion of the drum unit is full. Also, try to have instructions for the end user to clear the "Replace MK" message. This triggers when the printer reaches 100K prints. By then most of the components will have already been replaced, but the message can't be cleared unless it reaches this point - so it essentially creates an unnecessary service call. Kyocera should make this something that can be cleared via KFS. This printer also has a "Quiet Mode" button that will cut the print speed in half, so be sure this button isn't green when trying to diagnose slow print speed.

Replace fuser. It's a very common issue with these.
