    Ecosys M6535 Paper jam question

We have a handful of these machines out and this one has a reoccurring jam issue (sort of). The machine has new feed tires, the paper lift sensor and springs look to be in good shape as we have fought those in the past. It will throw a paper jam of 4201. It happens anywhere from 10 to 50 to 200 pages apart. The service manual is very helpful in that it lists that code as "didn't arrive at the exit sensor in time from tray one". So it's somewhere between the paper tray and the exit sensor.

My question is has anyone fought this and if so, did you start with the paper feed clutch or the paper feed motor. We've really not had issues with either so if someone out there has run a lot of these machines and can shed some light on the more likely culprit, I'd appreciate it.

Again the paper lift/present sensors appear to be good and the machine does NOT say "out of paper" when the jam happens. Paper is usually stopped mid machine.

    Thanks for any input

Did you try a different fuser. You said paper did not arrive at the exit sensor in time. Just saying.

      Is this using plain paper?

Have had jamming issues with Letterhead at one customers. The rollers had trouble gripping on to the leading edge because of whatever their supplier had used to print the letterhead. Rotated the paper 180 degrees and set the print driver according fixed the problem.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
        5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

If you have any available, it's always a good idea to try paper with a little more body like 24lb or 28lb. That pretty much eliminates any hardware related issues.
          Hope that helps !

When the tray is inserted, it engages a lever at the rear of the machine, which pushes up the separation roller to the feed roller. The lever gets broken and the machine will still feed the paper, but wil get intermittent jams.
remove the separation roller assy and inspect that the lever is intact.

Have you tried running a long run through the bypass tray, I believe that has it's own clutch, if you can run a couple hundred through the bypass without any jamming, then look at tray 1 feed clutch. If you're running multiple drawers, try the long run with the other drawers if it has them, but the bypass tray will help you determine if its a clutch issue or not.

Thanks for all the follow ups.
It is plain paper. No letterhead
Fresh paper did the same thing using our paper we run at the shop.
Feed Rollers are new and paper switches all blown out and springs inspected.
Fuser is in good shape and according to the customer the paper stops before the fuser when it does jam. I can only go by what they're telling me as none of the techs have been there to see it actually jam but the event log obviously doesn't lie.
It's been about 24 hours since we swapped out the drive pack for the pickup/feed assembly with a known working unit to see if that's where the problem lies. So far so good. This was an easier test as the clutch is buried inside the pack and you have to split the case of the drive assembly to swap it. Also if that is the case, the whole assembly goes for about $100 on Kyocera. Not playing gear plinko and 3 screws to remove will win every time if it is in fact the problem. Will update again in a few days.

Yes I have bought those clutches individually and split that clutch pack, those clutches individually are only about $10.00... keep us updated, I'm interested to know the permanent fix.

Don't forget that this model uses an optical sensor on the underside of the drum unit, which can get dusty, as well it as a lever sensor just at the registration roller which might get dust falling into it and it is mounted to the HV board below. Those will mess up the timing, and I think the only sensor that cares about timing is the fuser(42xx) which seems to be the catch-all for issues not originating at the tray. I get customers who break/dislodge the registration sensor arm while clearing jams poorly, usually with confusing symptoms
