    Another memory low

    Good afternoon

I have another "memory low" question. This one seems to come up a lot but after searching i find no definitive answer. This issue comes up on all machines across the board. Today it was a TA 4002i. The customer has been scanning to a folder on server. Machine worked for most of the day but late this afternoon she walked up to the machine and it was displaying the memory low message. No one had been near the machine ( so no one else had used it). All previous scans had reached their destination so there wasnt a scan hung up or multiple scans waiting.
We tried to power machine down but it stayed in shutting down state. We had to unplug machine to reset.
Firmware was 4.11 which is only one version old. I did update to 4.12 and tested machine. It seemed to be working when i left.

I see a lot of post that say to adjust resolution or change it to b/w but i cant see where that would fix this issue.
I have also seen on multiple occasions where this message will appear while scanning 1 sheet. The original is nothing special, just a letter on white paper with no background. I would think default settings should work for any machine with 1 original no matter what the coverage is.

Seems like we have this call weekly. I have 2 tickets hanging for this issue at this time so if anyone has any insight i'd sure appreciate any advise.

    thanks
    Chuck

Most machines you can set to power off and on through KFS. You should also be able to do it at the machine in timer settings. Clearing the memory when rebooting takes care of it. This will also fix the apps that disappear due to the motion detection sensor.
    Hope that helps !

As Tony mentioned, a reboot will clear the memory. The latest FW pack includes 2 fixes for Memory Full, but one actually makes the message appear in FAX mode were it didn't before so....

You can balance the memory between scan and copy in MM340 but this has the hallmarks of a memory leak in the C++ programming so unless there is a specific usage scenario that you can identify, you'll have to wait until the engineers identify and remove the programming error. The have found several and fixed them, but it's a slippery slope.

This happens when memory allocated for a transaction is not properly (programmatically) released such that it becomes unusable....slowly reducing the amount of usable RAM until reboot.

Thanks for the replies. Power cycle of machine clears memory. That makes since. I will also look into mm340 at the customers that use the machine for mostly scanning ( if i understand correctly).
        Thanks again!

Make sure the customer is not using private print, this uses the memory, if they are using private print then switch them to custom box which uses the hard drive. I had this problem at several customers.
