Can someone verify this? I find that hard to believe.Adversity temporarily visits a strong man but stays with the weak for a lifetime.Comment

the snmp is gonna have nothing to do with it printing b/w. snmp is gonna be involved in the transmission of scans. make sure b/w is set on the copier and set in the printer driver. i don't know the model. but there is a few on the market that if it runs out of a color you really can't do anything else, until you replace said color.Comment

While I'm not sure if SNMP is causing this issue, it definitely could be a possibility.
Kyocera's idea was good in theory, but executed poorly. Unless they've changed it, when a color runs out, it just starts printing in B&W. They end user doesn't know that a color is out and place a service call. I think it should prompt them on the screen to proceed with the job in B&W or cancel the job.Comment

This is incorrect. SMTP Simple Mail Transport Protocol sends scans through an Exchange server. SNMP is Simple Network Management Protocol. It's used to monitor devices on the network and report back to the driver or other program if there are any issues with the device. On older Sharp machines, SNMP would disable printing when the Maint lights came on. You could disable this in the soft switch, or disable SNMP in the driver.

yes i understand how the scan process works. been dealing with it for well over 10 yrs. i have worked on kyocera, lexmark, ricoh, brother, HP, among other brands. but you still haven't explained how that affects printing in black and white? the original post stated nothing about the maintenance light being on. the only time a copier prints during the scan process is if you have it set to give some type of confirmation report. and all of those i have ever seen only print in black and white. as i stated, if a toner runs out, some copiers won't allow you to do anything.

It would be an issue if the device is out of toner, as far as SNMP is concerned. The machine tells the driver that something is wrong with the machine, not necessarily WHAT is wrong with it. Disabling SNMP in the driver will not allow the machine to report back to the driver, sending the data over anyway.Comment

will work as long as on the MFD the option for Color Toner Empty Action is set to Print in Black & White (before the toner runs out - you cant set this after the tone runs out).Comment

crazy they would even set it to do that. but that is my one lesson learned for today. thanks for the info...Comment
