3353ci noises only in the morning.

    Hello,
I have a customer that says the machine makes grinding noises first thing in the morning everyday, but then never does it again throughout the day.

I was thinking fuser, so I had them power the machine down for an hour before I stopped by, but I wasn't able to duplicate.

I scheduled a day to stop by in the morning before they start printing, and of course it didn't do it.

I've attached a recording the customer provided to me, and it does seem loud/clunky but doesn't seem horrible.

Anybody know why it is making the sounds? Anyway to prevent it?

Machine has about 220k B&W and only 20k color

This series' fuser(along with the 52 series) were pretty garbage. They would make noise in the morning, they would leave bearing dust everywhere, and would RARELY make it to the suggested maintenance interval. I'd replace it anyway, and then turn on Silent Mode. Also, lower the energy save settings to 5 minutes, and 15. Those fusers running constantly is a terrible thing.

      Thanks for the reply.

Looks like they had moaning / ticking / squeaking noises a couple months ago and the fuser was replaced then. Less then 10k. I didn't see gear dust when I inspected.

I always set machines to silent mode, but usually not as low of energy saver.

I would think a machine being unplugged for an hour would duplicate morning noises.

You would think so, but somehow, it happened a few times for us with the exact same symptoms, unfortunately.

            Thanks,

            I will look into this.

It looks like QAN239 is the bulletin you are referring to.

I have had to replace a few exit unit assy on these models. They can make quite a terrible sound.

You may want to try to exchange it.
