406ci changing from B&W to color on it's own ??

Had anyone had an issue with a customer calling and complaining that the 406ci is now printing in color when it used to be set to B&W from their computers. Customer insisted that THEY did not change it and the machine did it all by it's self. Checked the setting and it is now set to color. I know we had set it to B&W and was printing that way for at least a month. Have not did any firmware updates on the machine since we changed it to B&W..

    -------------------------------------------------------------------
Remoted into the server and then to the copiers and checked the setting and both copiers are set to default to B&W and printing to B&W. Must be their computers where it is changing.

I have had Ricohs where I had to require a specific User ID in order to print in color. If the 405ci can do that setting you get rid of the problem. Whomever has changes the driver on their computer will sudden be unable to print and then you will know who they are.

Go into network protocols and turn off WSD on the copier.
On the print driver go into advanced tab and printing defaults. Set B/W there. If new user accounts are created in the computer it will get those defaults in the printer preferences.
Evil will always triumph because good is dumb.

If you were on the server, if it was installed under Print Management, you checked the Printing Defaults under the driver? Or if it was installed within control panel, did you check under Printer Properties > Advanced > Printing Defaults? This one will change the defaults for any shared driver when it's pulled down.

This being said, I've had an HP driver software create it's own Kyocera driver, customer used it, and of course it failed and kept locking up the machine.

Avoid WSD at all costs, but also AirPrint has been creating drivers lately, though I don't think we've had issues with it yet... for now.

There's also a way to lock B/W on the driver, Printer Properties > Device Settings > Administrator(Possibly under User if Admin doesn't show) > Lock Settings ? B/W Mode

I always tell customers to untick "Let Windows Manage My Default Printer", that seems to stop a lot of "silly" problems
Tip for the day; Treat every problem as your dog would.....If you cant eat it or f*ck it....then p*ss on it & walk away...

WSD is turned Off, and Airprint and they are using the KX driver.
