    KM 4050 address book disappeared

Have a KM4050 that was working fine one day the next day the scan to email started tossing out errors, then the address book disappeared and the display is verrrrrrry sloooooow.

The Copying and printing work just fine.

    Anyone seen this?

    Thanks

    km 4050 errors

update your firmware... and then check scan to email from the command line... ping the smtp server host name... ping its ip address... check to see if the copier can connect to an smtp server that you know for a fact works... ping the copier... see if anything is blocking the copiers communication... setup your own smtp server on a laptop and via a crossover cable set the copier up on it and verify that it works... i have had experiences where the smtp server just went down for no apparent reason... its not unheard of... just keep testing and you will get it eventually...

now if the smtp is ok... then more than likely its a problem with either the memory on the main board... or the little cmos... that plugs into it... those guys used to get fried a lot on the km 3050s... check your maintenance logs... to see if that gives you a direction...

The SMTP is ok. we put a loaner out at the customers site and got it to scan to email right away. so I'm thinking its like you said, the memory or that controller PCB is cooked.

Do you know if the address book is held on the HDD or on some sort of NVRAM?

      Thanks again.

if memory serves right that contrl pcb or cmos as I like to call it holds all those settings addressbook and anything else that you need... check your bulletins they might shed some light...

to test out the ram and hard drive check kmnet viewer... not sure but I think it stopped working with the task alfas... so everything before should be testable...

address book is stored on hdd, so could be faulty. format+scandisk. or better: new fw+format+scandisk. also: copy address book and store it on customers server or keep backup yourself, just in case hdd turns up fubar

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
              1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
              2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
              3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
              4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
              5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Sounds like the Hard Drive is DOA (Dead On Arrival). You might try a new one.

Firmware. Service Code 917 will back up all HDD data which includes address book, program keys, job accounting, etc. so you know what all is stored on the HDD. Check out the Taskalfa service manual. Works on Falcon III's if the firmware is up to date.
                  Hope that helps !

                    Hi Guys,

I've replace the RAM, DIMM, & battery for the controller. Still no go. However, after 10+ mins in the Send mode, it allowed me into the Address book. But it also gave me a CF523 error after I got into the address book. Looked in the manual and could not find the specific error.

Anyways, I will replace the controller and the HDD and see what happens then.

Thanks again guy for the info.
