    [Misc] Scanning using hostname

I cannot scan to a computer with a TASKalfa 300ci using the hostname. Works fine with the ip address, but dhcp is turned on and I want to use the hostname.

What OS is the computer you are trying to scan to ? Make sure you have the DNS servers in the MFP. According to this article it should resolve it without DNS, but just to be safe. I've seen the same thing. You can also use the SFU & set it up FTP, although this won't resolve the IP conflict. The other thing I've done in small offices that do not have IT is change it to a static address.

    Welcome to the forum.
    Hope that helps !

The OS is XP no dns servers internal. Three laptops and one workstation. The workstation works fine but the laptops do not work using hostname.
      I cannot set the laptops to static because they move from office to worksite. I'm guessing there is a service not running or configured different but I have not been able to figure out.;

Test access to the shared folder from another computer.
        a. Find a computer on the network that does not already connect to the share.
        b. Click Start, and then click Run.
        c. Type: \\computername\foldername
        d. Press Enter.

        e. If this works enter the exact same information into the MFP web page.

I've set up machines in our shop that are brand new. Some will scan to the hostname & some won't. Don't ask me why?
Since it works to one, I'd suggest it's not an MFP issue. My next step would be scan to email.............then run.
        Hope that helps !

You have to put in the DNS address by translating human-friendly computer hostnames into IP addresses. For example, [url=http://www.example.com] translates to 192.0.32.10

My experience is the same as tmaged. Some can use hostname, some won't. The IP is a sure thing is you can be sure that DHCP has a long enough lease for the laptops. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
            1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
            2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
            3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
            4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
            5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
