KM-1650 - Where is this print job coming from?

    Hi All,

I am working on a KM-1650 that has had some printing issues. The client is a builder and has been trying to print off large documents and the machine is pausing a 1/4 of the way through the print job and then just reprints the same pages - the other 3/4 never get printed.

Because this model's print system only had 64MB of RAM, we thought that the spool data was probably too much so we upgraded it to 320MB. The client has advised that it is now printing out more pages but has again paused and then reprints the same pages that has already been printed out - the remaining pages never print out.

I know the client does not have a HDD option nor does the client have RAM disk turned on in the machine settings. I have had the client restart the printer via the Menu system as well.

I have had the client disconnect the printer network lead and have the machine powered back on and the machine seems to be happy enough and does not print out this same job. The minute the network lead was reconnected, the machine started printing out. So I thought it has to be a job in the queue, right? Wrong! I've had the client check the queue on her workstation and on the server (as the driver is shared through the server) and could not see any jobs in the queue. I've had the client check both the spool folders on the server and her workstation with no files in any of the folders. I made the client cancel job from the Operation Panel when it showed up and it cancelled the job and the MFD proceeded to print out the other jobs that had banked up? I thought the problem had been solved, but..

the client advised this morning that the same print job that we've been trying to cancel has reprinted the same amount pages and not one page more. It is strange as that same job did not try to reprint on the same day we were trying to cancel it yet it did it the day after...

So can anyone advise where i can look? PC problem or MFD problem?

Any advice would be great. thanks.

    Regards

    Steve

What print emulation are you using? You'll get consistently faster print times with PCL XL emulation. If KPDL, try print-as-image button under the Advanced button in the driver.

You might try increasing the host buffer: Set H8 to 64 or more, Submit, set S5 to 2 (1MB increments), Submit, set M6 to 10 (network printing memory to max), Submit. (Only submit one change at a time.) =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I would try reinstalling the driver on his computer with TCP/IP port.

He may have a spy/mal/vir problem on his computer sucking up info for large print jobs.

If nobody else on the network has the same problem with his large file it isolates it to his workstation.

I have seen a computer in a P2P network that has bizzare programs loaded. He has had to RF&RI 3 times. Works OK until he has enough time to reinstall the same programs.
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

I would try setting the driver to GDI mode when connected on the network to let the PC do all the work.
        Hope that helps !

Under the Advanced tab in the driver, you have several spool options. I'd guess you have Start Printing Immediately selected. Select 'Start Printing After Job Has Spooled' - I'd wager you won't see the job at all, as it overloads available memory. Try the direct to printer option and let us know how it works out.

Oh, make sure each page on the document is set to a paper type available in the machine. Weirder things have happened.
