    Falcon II charger insanity

    I have a 3035 at a location that we have put two drums and two chargers seperately since July.

    You walk in and print a counter page fine. Anything after that starts to get streak lines and these are internal prints. Twice I put a drum in and they went away. Saw in the service history where another tech had just put in a charger.

    So after some other troubleshooting I got out a charger. Bingo! it went away.
    That charger had only been in there 4220 copies and was clean as a whistle. Obviously in the past when I had replaced the drum I replaced the charger with it so I wonder if that was all I had to do really.


    Anybody else had this and what the heck is happening. The charger retaining charge somehow?

      Fans & filters? Is it some sort of specialized environment? Like screen printing: xylene. =^..^=
      If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

          No. It' a hearing aid place.
          It's wierd. It has just started this since July. But it's like the charge unit itself is holding residual charge.

          Oh I cleaned out all the filters and stuff. Free flowing air. Makes no difference.

              is the machine on a power circuit with a coke machine, microwave or similar? power surge may be happening, especially if something has changed recently.

                  Don't think so . It's on one of our good surge supressors which was a surprise to discover.

                      Check neutral to ground voltage at wall ??

                          Nope but I will next call. It's on a good surge supressor but I guess if you don't have it at the wall you won't have it there either.

                          I think it will be unlikely given the nature of the business where it is located. They have lots of sensitive electronic equipment and computers but I have see stranger things.

                              Did you figure out the issue? Just curious, are the chargers the new ones (with the black handle as opposed to the gray ones)? I ask because I had a similar issue a while back and it was a situation where the drum was replaced previously but the charger was swapped out bc the customer broke the handle. Turned out to be a problem with the charger bc it was an old style one in a newer drum. At the time I was given an explanation about the little spacers being changed between the two version, so I installed the black handled charger and the problem never came back.

                                  Can you attach a copy of the fault so we can have a look at the streaks ....

                                      I have similar issues with machines in a "Hair Academy", I'm not sure of the numbers but it is better then your 5k.

                                          You could be looking at a potential static electricity problem ? Not sure...

                                          I have seen customers move copiers from room to room along new carpet and then plug back in to the network and telephone systems only to see the fax board flashpointed by static HV. At one customer the boss thought the fax couldn't have be zapped until he watch me grab a hold of the customers door handle to leave, he heard a crack from static as I reached for the metal door knob. I said we got to replace the fax board, and sure enough we had too.

                                          People with woolen or nylon trousers an jackets should be aware of static HV especially around winter time when the air is dry. People can carry up to 40KV of static on themselves. The old analogue copy-glass/platen could hold a good charge in its day.

                                          I have built my own Vandegraff generators up to 300KV, they are a great learning tool as well as the kids having a lot of fun...
