    CS-400ci Jamming at Eject

We have a CS-400ci jamming when ejecting into the finisher. We go out and can't repeat the jam, but it shows in counts. The thing I am curious about is has anyone had trouble with these when they are on well-padded carpets. Last call for this, we found parts on the left door broken, including door latches and paper guides. The machine sits on padded carpet and sinks down to the point where the finisher is almost impossible to pull back from the machine to clear a jam, and I wonder if anyone has seen this cause a problem, maybe from the machine not aligning correctly with the finisher. Has anyone developed a good method to re-align this stuff or loosen up the finisher so it moves more freely? This machine has a very narrow allowance for alignment of the finisher. There is a place on the floor in our shop where we get a similar jam to the finisher. If you move the machine 6 feet, it stops. It is only on the color machines. Any suggestions? Am I on the wrong track?

Yes we have seen that same problem, putting a solid surface under the copier and the finisher may be the winning ticket for you, we have used chair rollers plastic or plywood, over some time the chair roller plastic gets low spots too though.

There is a recent bulletin out on a new exit unit you might want to check out but most likely it is the floor.

From what I've heard, I agree with your conclusions. Which finisher? The DF-760(B) has very elaborate adjustment for each wheel height individually. It's a huge improvement over the DF-710 which had no adjustment whatsoever.

I've see plywood, chair plastic matts, and the Cadillac: 1" Lexan (it probably cost as much as the copier!). Don't forget to include enough area to roll out the finisher. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
        5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Dave, Remove the plastic boots that cover the finisher wheels, Loosen 2 vertical screws for each wheel, 8 total. At the exit of the finisher body toward the rear is a plastic protrusion with a horizontal sight line. It aligns, or should align with the set pin on the metal bracket mounted to the copier body. Turn that thick screw over the wheel closest to the pin until that horizontal sight line on the protrusion aligns with dead center of the set pin. Remember how much you turn the screw, and the direction. Turn the other three screws over the other wheels the same amount. Eyeball for level based on the first wheel's adjustment. Test it out, lock everything down and replace the wheel covers.

It's good to know someone else has seen this. I wasn't sure if there was another issue I wasn't aware of. Will check the bulletin. I went out yesterday and adjusted the height. There was a 1/4 inch gap between the top of the finisher and the machine. Wil report on the results after giving it time to confirm. Thanks.

It's been over a week since I went out and re-aligned the finisher to the machine and no jams. From now on, when installing these with finishers on thick carpet, we are going to go back in a few days and check the alignment. It seems to be very critical. Thanks to all for the input.

I've had jamming on exit on an FS-C8500. Which is just the printer version. There would be an indentation on the leading edge of the exited sheet.

I found one of the fuser exit rollers was contaminated with something sticky. After cleaning it with WD40, the jam went away.

That and make sure it's on a firm surface.
