    [CQ] TA400CI smudges

I have 2 TA 400CI that are getting smudges on the copies, when you pull the transfer unit there is waste toner piled on top of the black drum unit. I have cleaned the waste system, replaced the black drum unit, black developer unit, transfer unit. upgraded the firmware to level 11, installed the spring mod in the waste tube. Am going to replace the waste motor (as per the recent bullitin on waste motor error code note: I am not getting error codes). I am trained on this machine and am also going to post a message to Kyocera just trying to get as much info as I can.

The majority of the smudge issues are caused by the developer. Kyocera has reciently redesigned these units and the new part number is 302H793710. You should also adjust the U325 setting to Mode 4 (if cover ratio is between 5 and 10 % or to Mode 5 if the coverage is over 10%.

Zach is right about U325, also try running your DV Refresh, and running AC Calibration in U464. With f/w 11, you get a few different modes for AC Cal. Try using mode 1. This has worked for me to get rid of a couple relentless smudging issues. If you have done all of the updates related to the smudging issue and cleaned everything thoroughly, then U325 and U464 are probably your best bet. Make sure to run all your standard adjustments/calibration, etc afterward.

I agree that it's usually developer related. I've tried the AC Calibration Modes, but have gotten only minor improvements. In the end I end up replacing the developing unit. Maybe the u325 settings will help.
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
