Machine is throwing c3900 only when using the DP. From the glass it does work. From what I'm reading in the SM I would expect that it shouldn't work at all because both PWB's are in the scanning unit, or am I missing something here? Also, I tried running U021 (I've never done it before) and after 20 minutes left the customer site with it still being active. How long should it take to initiliaze?

You are correct in that the same CCD and shading PWB are used through the DP and OC (off contact glass). It shouldn't make any difference whatsoever.
By chance do you have the DP760(B) or DP750(B) document processor installed? The 760(B) has a CIS to scan the second side, to speed up duplex scanning. The 750(B) does not, it only uses the CCD under the glass.
Did you perchance print off the maintenance report before defaulting all your machine settings? I sure hope somebody did. Otherwise you'll have all the new problems to go with your old one. It should take ~15m at most. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Just out of curiousity, have you watch the scanner operation?
I've seen situations where a dirty or gritty scanner rail can cause light source #1 to tip slightly when it's all the way at the left under the slit glass. On the Sharp that I was working on at the time it gave blank copies, but that machine was kind of low tech. A machine with more sophisticated diagnostics might have identified a CCD or shading error. You might also look for a dirty or out-of-position shading plate on the DP. Maybe DP hinge height?
Intuitively I don't think you'll find the problem at the CCD or shading PWB, but somewhere close nearby, related.
Were you able to re-load firmware? I believe it's version 7.0, and I use the CF port under the rectangular cover in the back. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:

I haven't gone back yet but, i distinctly remember that scanning copying from the glass itself did not give any CQ problems. I had suggested trying another DP. Now that you mention a dirty or out-of-position shading plate on the DP. Maybe DP hinge height I'll take a closer look. And, yes I reflashed the firmware even though it has already the latest.Comment

I went there today with another 750 for testing. YIKES, you're not gonna believe this! When I powered up the machine it threw the c3900 right away. I tried twice with the same result. Put back on the original DP and back to where I was. From glass OK and from DP code. Brought the test DP back to the shop and it works fine. So it's has to be a board problem the question is which? The ones the SM suggests for the c3900 or main, engine? We already ordered what the SM suggests so we'll see.Comment

It's only a guess, but I'd start with the main. Did you include the shading PWB on your list?
That is truly weird. Please update. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:

Possibly the other DP-750 had a different/incompatible level of firmware? It's necessary to re-load firmware when swapping accessories.
At any rate, congratulations on your fix. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
