    620/820 CIS

    The image provided is a picture of the second page in a 2 to 1 copy job passed through the DP. There is a light band on the image about 3/4 inches wide in the feed direction (as if the glass was dirty).
    I have removed and cleaned the CIS as well as inspected/reseated the ribbon cable. No change. Tech support was less than helpful.
    Has anyone experienced this before? The CIS looks like I can maybe dissasemble it, but I would rather verify that it is the problem, rather than take a bunch of boards and find out in the field. I was thinking it could be an LED that was out, but I realized there is an entire lamp in there.

      This is a dual scanning feeder. The CCD lens will not affect 1st vs 2nd side. You must inspect/repair inside slit glass.

      BTW, light bands imply a void, this is a dark band.

      I think you might have residue on that inside slit.

          Jr is a little confused.
          Yes, the CIS is the right place to look for 2nd side image problems (inside the bottom of the DP). The CIS uses the white reference roller just above to calibrate the CIS white level. If that roller is dirty (and it does get dirty), it can create problems like you describe.

          I have machines with 100,000+ scans, and that white roller can also start to crack, and get dirt in the cracks that cannot be cleaned off.
          Try that for starters.

          The CIS is a sealed unit. Don't try to open it up. =^..^=
          If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

              I haven't done it myself, haven't had a similar issue yet, but you can try SIM73, looking at the Manual, it should give you some choices to check the lamp operations, but as Blackcat noted, the White Reference Rollers Opposite to the Slit Glass would probably be your best bet.

                  Replacing the CIS took care of it... 1100 dollar part though on a machine with under 10k on it

                      Not cheap. That's why I'd never open one up unless I was absolutely sure it was toast. Congratulations. =^..^=
