    Document processor and black stripes

    Hallo,
I have a KM-3035 printer/copier/scanner with the optional document processor. When I scan or copy using the DP I get dark stripes about an inch wide down the copy or scan (see attachment). If i place the document on the glass and make either a copy or scan it comes out perfectly.

I have cleaned the glass (both the big and small) on both sides. Used a can of compressed air cleaning the small mirror to the far left with no change. I have also used the canned air on as much of the DP i can get to without taking the whole thing apart.

Apart from the dark lines scanning/printing using the DP the printyer works flawlessly. Any assistance would be appriciated.

    Thanks,

how's the surface condition of the slit glass? That's the only thing that separate itself from copying from the glass.

Perfect. No scratches, marks or other blemishes that can explain the stripes. I just took it apart again and cleaned both mirrors. There were some dust on them but not enough to explain the dark stripes.

Two things to check. First look at the white plate that is held by 2 springs and 2 shoulder screws. Make sure the plate is sprung forward and the unit did not get tweaked(bent) in any way. Second check the hinges and make sure the are not cracked or worn. Check the black part of the hinges that is greased(this is where you will see the ware or if it is cracked). I have seen this before. It seems that the Document feeder is sitting right, but it is not. You should be able to hold the document feeder in another position on the glass by pushing on one corner and testing the feeder and you should see a change in your copies. You can also try changing the scan start time for the document feeder in service mode. I have seen this help to. Good Luck.

I have continued to work with the DP and have found that it is not aligned correctly. It seems like the DP is feeding the document in at an angle, if that makes sense. How do you align the DP so that the DP feeds correctly? I see that there is an aligment screw on the right hinge (standing in front of the printer). I have turned that screw all the way over and it has helped but there are still stripes on the copy.

If I push the DP I can mostly the the stripes to go away, but that is not a long term solution. Are there a trick to do the alignment? -lines that have to match and or additional adjustment possibilities apart from the one screw?

Look closely at the hinge. It is most likely the hinge. I have seen this out in the field several times.

              Two possibilities:

              1) The hinges may be worn out. Replace them as a pair. You'll notice that the front does not seem to go all the way down or stay down.
              2) Or in an attempt to adjust out an original skew, the tech may have adjusted the right hinge way out of position. The document feeder should sit squarely on the top of the printer, with the sides lining up.

In either case the white plate is not sitting flat/evenly over the slit glass. =^..^=

              2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.

Would you be any chance know the part numbers for the two hindges and where I can get them at a good price?
