By themselves each of these symptoms don't mean much, but together then start to point in a specific direction.
The LCD display was on and functioning, but the backlight was off. I've seen these fluorescent backlights go out on Sharp products, and I would have ordered an LCD display, except ...
... that on that dark display the screen said "Left Cover Open." Then when I powered Off/On I got "C3100". So what does a dark display have in common with a door open indication and C3100?
I thought that maybe a connector was loose on the power supply, but when I tracked down each symptom they lead to different connectors. Then I noticed on LC1SW (left cover switch) is supplied from "24v2" (24vdc second line?) on the power supply, as is the operation panel backlight, and the Scanner PWB. Sure enough, all the 24vdc sources on the power supply were dead (-0.2vdc).
I'll be putting in the power supply tomorrow. I'm just hoping there isn't a direct short I haven't addressed. =^..^=
