Re: Kyocera
How about optics? Have you done any cleaning there? =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Re: Kyocera
Dirty scanner optics can do that, too. I usually try to organize my efforts from least expensive to most expensive.
I seem to recall "background". When did it become "intermittent black copies"?
You may have arcing between the contact on the back frame contact to the primary charge unit contact. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:

Re: Kyocera
Nope. U081 is an exposure adjustment, but I wouldn't try using that for an intermittent problem. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:

Re: Kyocera
Drum refresh is intended for a drum that is cold or may be exposed to excessive humidity, for example installing a drum unit that is cold from sitting out in the car. I suspect that cold may not be a factor for you, but humidity may be. Place ledger (or A3 for you metric countries) paper in the MP Tray. Drum Refresh uses the abrasive properties of toner and paper rubbing against the drum to remove any moisture on the drum surface. This function is available from the System Menu, Adjustments, Drum Refresh.
But personally I don't think that this function will do anything for you. Moisture on the drum presents as light of blotchy light areas in the print. Did the problem change again? I hate these moving targets. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:

Re: Kyocera
Did you put a 3050 drum in by accident?
There is a difference between the drum units for a 3050 and the 4050/5050's. If you go one way it still works but the image is off a bit and the other way I think gives you this problem.
Just a thought.Comment

Re: Kyocera
Hi!
I have had this problem on my Olivetti d-copia 500MF.
The problem was the charge unit.
There is an issue with the cleaning motor unit, so you don't manage to
intstall the charger right.
I think it is an lever that you just need push with an screwdriver to
install it right.Comment
