The files come in just under 500MB, but as a trend firmware files grow over time. That is to say, I expect that the cumulative files will pass 500MB in the next generation. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
I use an 8GB attached to my keys. This way you have enough space to store all of the firmware files on there in separate folders of course. 8GB will work on a Falcon 3 and 2560/3060 and definitely on the newer ones. 16GB is another story. It will update firmware on 500ci and above, but try to do it on the Falcon 3 and 2560/3060... DENIED. So to answer your question, 8GB and under is ideal for any copier that updates firmware via USB.
Most of the Konica's I work on max out around 2 gig. Anything higher than that it won't see it. Some of the older boxes I work on will only see a 1 gig.
Color is not 4 times harder... it's 65,000 times harder. They call it "TECH MODE" for a reason. I have manual's and firmware for ya, course... you are going to have to earn it.
You have to do some file manipulation. The only file(s) that the machine can read will be on the root. All other files have to be in folders. This could make sense if you have a dozen models of machines, or your laptop was on and running all the time, but I have hundreds of models and my laptop spends the majority of the day shut down in the car.
Personally I agree with your rep. It's cumbersome, but I have 50+ CF cards and USB sticks, one machine per card/stick. And I don't have to fire up the laptop to rearrange files every time I load firmware.
