Hello guys,...Been on a roll lately with service calls...until now.. Jam 71 on FS1128 doc feeder DP110 (tiny little thing). It is intermittant. The paper path is simple and there are only a couple of sensors. The paper will feed in and as is normal will pause for a second at exit until next page starts to feed. I see this is normal. On this one, the paper will pause at the exit normally, but never finish feeding out, then J71. I don't throw parts at machines so I thought I would ask for input. The paper is conveyed by motor and the only thing I see is a "timing sensor" which checks good in maintenance mode. ???????

sounds like you have a good handle on kyoceras.
i have nothing concrete, just want to make sure we're talking about plain letter size paper with no hole punch.
because adf has no length sensor and i have seen certain hole punches line up directly with adf actuators causing split second I/O jams

paper is good. i use paper from the tray for originals. 1st visit, Jam 71 every other copy literally...then suddenly began working for 65 copies..cleaned timing sensor with air, feed tires,...2nd visit 2 days later, Jam71 every 6 or 8 copies,..feed clutch, timing sensor, motor, checks good in maintence mode, sudennly started working, didnt jam once...3rd visit, jam every 3 or 4 copies..tore down to frame, cleaned sensors with air, checked for paper path obstructions closely, put back together, updated firmware, and ran 50 copies no problem....Customer called back next day,,on arrival, wouldn't jam at all 100 originals. Don't have another DP110 to switch out..I HATE to throw parts at this but I guess I'll order timing sensor,motor,pcb, etc. If anyone has further input, please advise. i work on full line Kyocera color and b/w large and small and here I am getting butt handed to me by a tiny little adf. We haven't placed any of these little things, but I can apply some general Kyocera experience.
How about guide fins and/or mylars? It's fairly common to have an original yanked backwards, and damaging a mylar. Just last week I had a customer digging around with a pair of scissors and dug up the guide fins. There wasn't much left by the time I sanded out all the cuts, yet to my surprise it fed. Just run your fingers along each of the fins, checking for even the slightest catch.
Next DP height. Make sure the document feeder is setting on there squarely and levelly.
Next clutches. On most of these little DPs the clutches are not cleanable, but you can soak the whole thing in a cup of alcohol then let it dry out. Watch for rust dust. Even a little rust is a good clue that your in the right part of the machine. No lubrication, ever.
I don't know what kind of sensors this DP uses but most of the time it comes down to dust, but you knew that.
Does the machine sit in bright direct light? Sometimes direct sunlight can throw off jam detection and/or size detection. I did this just last week. I had a FalconIII that was incorrectly rotating the image only in the morning. In the morning the machine gets direct sunlight onto the size detection sensors. Closing the blinds fixed it.
If I were to start throwing parts at the machine (and I think I would be at this stage of the investigation), I'd start with rollers, clutch and sensors. Based on your description, I would not suspect the DP PWB or any motors.

Hi...had about 20 faulty dp's this year.Ran out of dp's to swop out and time stripping cleaning replacing sensors and clutches.Recent experiement is removing the heat shrink from dp harness and testing the harness for any break and re installing it.From a client calling every day to Me calling them to see how things are going.Note-this is still in trial.This problem got worse with the new models.Kyocera TA Olivetti in SA....have never heard of this issue.Comment
