Kyrocera KM4050 with df730 finisher (stapler only) won't work properly - help?

I just installed a km4050 with a df730 finisher. The machine sort of recognizes the finisher but, it doesn't. If I print a status report it says a 1000-finisher is installed. (df730 is 1000 sheet finisher). Now here is the issue. I can go to copy mode, select staple and the status displays

"output tray has changed, >>> finisher tray then "cannot use this function"

If I go to system menu, common settings, output tray, copy/custombox, ... the finisher tray option is grayed out like it doesn't see it. Only top tray is useable.

Why won't the finisher work? what am I missing?

Print off an E000 Error log to determine the current error.
To reset the error perform an U906 Partial Reset. That should solve your problem.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Thanks, I ended up doing a U021 intitialize (kinda soft reset) and now it works. But thanks a bunch. For the heck of it, I am going to look at your solution via service manual to see if it may have been a better choice but, this worked for me.

      Thanks again.

Blackcat is right about U906. If there's a problem with a finisher, document processor, paper trays, etc, you can always do U906, reboot the machine and see if the error is solved. If the problem is related to the finisher, the machine disables the finisher and switches to the standard output tray. U906 resets the error.

Your "soft reset" is a memory clear, and not too smart. I don't know where this idea comes from that a "factory reset" actually fixes something. It only throws out the settings that took a lot of work for someone to input. If you were to take a close look at your prints now, you'll find that the print centering, print image registration, print voids, scan centering, scan registration, scan voids, scan magnification mainscan and subscan, DP centering, DP registration, DP magnification all now out of whack.

I'm sure the next tech with a manual will be thanking you for your assistance.

The service manual seemed to indicate what you talk of as U020. U021 it seems to say does not mess with those settings. Here is what it says. "All data other than that for adjustments due to variations between machines is initialized"

Maybe I am wrong or understood it wrong but U021 seemed to be the answer. Perhaps U906 would have been a better Choice. And I will check the copies/prints and scans more closely but so far they seem to be fine.

You are wrong, do not ask for advice if you are not going to use it. Blackcat is probably the most knowledgable on this site and his advice should be respected.

If I can use an analogy, using a memory clear is like using a sledge hammer to sink brads. The brads go in. The brads drive in one stroke. And it leaves a huge depression in the wood everywhere you strike.

There's a better way than the sledge hammer approach. Use the right tool for the job.

                  1) Start by finding out what code you are addressing: E000 Error Log. How will you know what to fix if you don't know the error code?
                  2) Fix that thing.
                  3) Reset only the error in U906.

I would hope that you can restore function, without de-tuning every adjustment on the machine. If you care what the prints/copies look like, save memory clear functions for catastrophic events, not minor events like resetting a code. It can take several hours to perform all the adjustments required to get perfect image quality back, and some of these adjustments require special test sheets that I do not carry, like shading adjustment.
