    odd print diriver incident

had a 250ci machine causing problems so took them a 400ci loaner. Figured I'd just give it the same IP and use the same driver. Sat down at the first machine to send a test page and it's a no go. So pulled up the Command Center to double check settings and they all looked good. So next step was to just install a new driver, but the driver would not see the machine either. Finally called their IT person to come over and check it and I moved on to the next machine and the driver worked fine. But to get to the gist of it 4 of the 6 machines were XP and let me use the original driver with no issues. The 2 machines that would not were Win 7. They would not use the old driver, the new driver would not see the machine, but I could open the command center. We had to install the Universal Print Driver and some how it saw and installed the 400ci. Any clues why this may have done this as it kinda boggled my brain, but at least we found an alternative solution to getting it printing.

I've gotten into the habit of using the driver deleter software when changing drivers to make sure I do get the new driver loaded without keeping any of the old driver in place. Not sure if this applies here.

I did delete a printer on a computer and load the latest driver only to have it still show the old driver settings so I know that the old driver still had an effect on the new installation. That convinced me to make use of the print driver deleter program.

Do the Win7 PCs use the XPS driver? My guess is that the XPS driver identifies the specific model, not just the series. On my Win XP work laptop I use the CS-500ci driver to any of the Saturn series. All the functions work. The only anomaly is a warning pop-up that the model does not match with the driver. I just click it off and it works fine. =^..^=

      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.

When I loaded up the KX Driver installer it would see a KM 2050 in another building and a 250ci across the street but would not bring up the 400ci...that why I found it odd because it would see the other 250ci they had on campus....

I've had the "Discovery" phase of the driver install fail occasionally. It's very infrequent, and inconsistent. Sometimes if you refresh the model appears.

When the printer is not discovered just select an IP address and continue with your installation. =^..^=

Or add printer, create the port if necessary, then browse to the location of the driver. There's more than one way to skin a ..............nevermind.
                Hope that helps !
