CS-5050 Reading paper incorrectly on DF

Ive got a 5050 that started acting bizzaro from nowhere

If we put in the paper 11x8.5 in the DF, the Machine says "inappropriate paper size, please add ledger paper"

If we put it in 8.5x11, it does the same thing, except requests legal paper.

Did a 906, 21, and even replaced the DF... None of these resolved the issue.

Documents reading correctly on the glass.

Anyone got a suggestion or know what might be up? Firmware is up to date.

Sometimes very bright lights above the DF will cause it to read wrong paper sizes. Try it with the lights off. I have encountered this many times over the years. Usually happens after replacing light bulbs or machine is put near window without blinds or curtains to prevent direct sunlight.

I'd check to see if there is a calibration for the sensitivity of the original length sensor. You should be able to test it in simulation.

I also like copymech's bright light theory. I've seen it on plenty of other models. On one particular occasion the enduser only had the problem in the morning, and was of smaller stature (altitudinously challenged). Taller endusers managed to block the direct sunlight with their body, or by standing in a certain location. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
        5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Sometime dirt can get in on the size detector pcb's and cause the machine to read false paper sizes. Try cleaning them.

My vote is that the floresent lights above the copier are the issue. I am sure that you cleaned the length dect sensor.

ended up being some low hanging cabinets right above the sensor. moved the copier out, no more issues.
