    Danger with Firmware release "8"

Updated the firmware to version 8 from 7 on three boxes, two 8000 and one 6500. After the update one 8000 and the 6500 started giving me background, ghosting and toner spewing after a total of 5-6 hundred clicks. The first copy is OK then they become progressively worse....after 30 or so pages background and ghosting becomes very pronounced . Rolled back the firmware to 7 and all image quality problems disappeared.
    Anybody else have similar experience?

Thanks Geo. I've become a little lax in keeping firmware updated, but in my defense firmware has created dozens of service calls. I remember a specific two or three versions of CS-5050 firmware that resulted in fax errors. It was only luck that our in-house machine wouldn't fax at all after the firmware update, and the office girls didn't hesitate to point out the connection. A quick firmware downgrade resolved a good dozen machines. From then on, I try out firmware upgrades on in-house machines first. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Normally I would wait a good month after a release before doing a firmware update.......BUT , this version was supposed to address the dreaded F0248 and help control dusting (Ha-Ha). So, I took a chance and installed it on some problem schools, as we are getting ready for the first day of classes. On the 5500 and below . the firmware seems to be working and will have to chance it....No time to roll back to 7.

Yes we also put the firmware on 2 4500i that had the 248 code. Put firmware on and those zillow files printed.

A quick update....Seems that the firmware MAY work on the 6500/8000 with low PM kit counts , under 200K . The units that gave us problems had MK above 400K. Just went to two 6500 ..The one with 200K seems to be OK, the box that has 425K ...background and ghosting....Going back to ver 7 for now

Is this a successful fix for Zillow files erroring with cf248?

Yes sir. I had one last week, unplugged the network cable, updated firmware & plugged the network cable back in.
The offending job printed after the update without deleting it from the queue.
                  Hope that helps !

Had f248 code on 6500i yesterday. Unplugged network cable, updated fw, plugged back in cable. Job printed 5 pages and f248 came back.. I rebooted, deleted the job and all was ok after.

I guess the fw fix for f248 is hit or miss..

F248 is usually printer driver queue error. Happens when some document gets stuck in queue followed by other documents ready to be printed but waiting on that one to finish. Double clicking the printer driver and cancelling all solves it. Of course it can be a problem with users without admin rights, couse cancel option is greyed out in that case.

I've had a couple of 6500i's that I had to go back to 7. One of them I needed to run 412 & 464 to get rid of the background after the firmware rollback.
                          Hope that helps !

Middle segment machines are having issues as well. Firmware has been pulled from KDA for 3500i-8000i.
