    5501i

getting a weird issue. customer says the image issue is random (of course). print or copy is affected. i ran some today and no duplication. i'm leaning towards charge, but wanted to check with you guys first.

the package this came from is about 20 duplexed, first image was one light bar then cleaned up and went several pages, then the sample, then cleaned up...any ideas?

paper running portrait. the grey background is scanner caused, not image issue.

      Re: 5501i

Have you looked at the 'Repetitive defects gauge' section in the Appendixies of the service manual?

I only have a 5500i manual, (is it different?) but it has suggestions for 38,39 & 44mm.
I can't tell from the scan how far apart those lines are...

        Re: 5501i

I'm guessing it's about 45mm repetetive, which translates to 14.3mm diameter. That's got to be primary charge. It's the only roller even remotely close to that size. =^..^=

Edit: Primary charge should be 38.9mm repetition. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
        5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

          Re: 5501i

45mm would be "developing roller surface" according to the 5500i (Not 5501i) TSG bulletin. Though that's normally spots, not lines full length...

Could explain the slight fuzzyness though, along with a bad bias contact for intermittent, maybe?

On the 5500i, 44mm lines are explained as "Transfer Roller", not sure how different these beasts are though, sorry, but it may help, hopefully...

had this same problem a few days ago, turned out to be the developer unit. As in some of the previous replies we used the defect gauge which pointed towards Transfer but as I have said it was the Developer unit that fixed it.
