    HP DESIGNJET 5500 SMEARING

    you create a printjob
you send it to the plotter
the plotter sends out a printhead alignment chart
with black smear across printhead alignment chart..
colors are there but its as if someone painted black over it...
    printheads and ink cartridges replaced...
    i am thinking tubes...
    any help would be appreciated...

Check the bottom side of the carriage to see if there is a buildup of ink. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I agree with Cat, and also you may wish to take a close look at the maintenance unit to make sure it is not at its end of life.
However, I have a favor to ask of you. Could you please make your request in the HP forum (http://www.copytechnet.com/forums/hp/) ? You will find many more people familiar with HP products there.
If you could do that, thank you.
