    Kip 7170K E2304 errors

Do you suppose that E2304 fuser errors might result from arcing to the drum?

There is evidence of arcing to the drum, either from the charge units or the developing unit. It's past due for maintenance at 305K. And I have a few samples that look like moist paper (loss of transfer in the heavy fill areas). Here's a photo:

    Power is fairly clean. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

      A few transfer codes.

And the fuser errors? Any connection? =^..^=

I have a resolution on this one.

I changed the S/T blocks and lids today ... no change. I have been aware of a pile of toner behind the cleaning roller, but it didn't think it was significant.

Apparently mono-component toner is conductive enough to short the cleaning bias to frame ground, and knock out the cleaning roller bias, and along with it ... transfer bias. With the cleaning roller removed I could get it properly clean, and the issue is gone.

          Nope. It's back.

I came into possession of a few bulletins. After much casting about we ended up doing 3 things, and possibly a forth on the horizon:

          1) We added a 1mm shim to the left fuser mounting bracket upper, to align the fuser with the main body of the machine. Then the voids were fairly consistent right to left.
          2) The bulletin pointed toward adjusting BUD 316 (fuser speed in the fourth (last) stage) decreased from the default: 33
          3) Also BUD 714 (roll speed for paper widths 30" to 36") decreased from the default 35, about the same amount

This combination worked for 30" and 36" Normal paper. BUD 702 should theoretically have worked the same way for 24" wide paper but it did not. My active theory is that since the customer prints primarily 24", the pressure roller has worn a bit narrower at the center 24", not affecting the wider papers. I think there is a pressure roller in my future. =^..^=

            Re: Kip 7170K E2304 errors

I think I've got a resolution on this one:

The pressure roller made no difference. KM came out to visit us and found the drum retaining mounts (you know, the ones you rotate ~1/4 turn to release or lock in the drum?) were not seated properly over the bearings. The improvement was immediate.

I have no explanation why it affected 18" and 24" wide paper, but not 30" or 36". It was clearly transfer related though. In places that had a large void, there was a properly developed latent image on the drum, just not transferred. And it seemed to get worse 30" or more from the leading edge.

This aluminum casting has a ridge for the bearing collar to slide into. That bearing was slightly off center and pinching the bearing collar between the casting and frame. I know thats unclear ... you'll know when you see it. =^..^=
