    E-340 Code / Dp-4510

i have dp 4510 out in the field that keeps coming up with a e-340 code..
the service manual says that its the copy density sensor.

has anyone experienced this , dose the sensor need to be replaced or adjusted...?

if you can help that would be great...I'm in a bind with this one...

The problem is that there is toner on the drum. You will either need to replace the drum cleaning blade if it's damaged (less likely), or the developer is bad and dusting the drum with toner (more likely)

most of the time when i get these, the CDS ass'y is dirty with toner dust.. have found different things in past that was causing over-dusting.. most of the time, it's due to old or premature developer failure .. sometimes, the process filter is clogged and doesn't allow for proper process area dust recovery.. this filter is behind right side cover (rear corner side).. have seen the toner recovery seal (the one between the drum toner auger and drum) fail to keep toner contained in the auger area and allow toner to drop down into the CDS ass'y area.. most of the time, the first thing i do, is vacuum out the interior of the copier, replace the process dust filter, and disassemble the CDS ass'y from the drum ass'y and clean everything.. very seldom have i had to replace the CDS ass'y.. if, for some reason you are not able to get the E3-40 code to clear (like a bad CDS or something), you can disable the checking of copy density by going to F5-25.. i'd do this last just to get ya by till ya can get the part in.. good luck..

P.S.-- while you have the CDS ass'y out and are cleaning it, DO NOT adjust the two pods that are on the board.. copier doesn't like it too much sometimes...lol...

            Re E3-40

RE E 3-40 All the other post are right but i also flip over the dev unit and vacuum out the ducks (remove bottom cover) also if you still find you are getting
E 3 40 and the sensors under the drum are clean and the cleaning blade and toner support are doing there job then remove the sensor pcb
and resolder all of the conectons( i have had a cold solder joint on one) I should mention before you start print out the maintance counter list first in f 7 if you can ,if not write down the drum clicks now if your sure every thing is clean run F-8 14 do this 3 or 4 times (you are not replacing the drum here) you are trying to reproduce the problem as the machine checks the drum maybe every few hundred copies or so so when you do F8-14 the machine will check the drum at this time . if the machine goes into E 3 40
every time then its the sensor pcb again resolder before you replace now if you are not replacing the drum go back into the drum maintance count and enter the drum count that you kept a record of as the count would have reset to 0

            Hope this helps
