DP-4530 leaking toner and restarting

Hi all, I've got a problem with a machine I'm not too familiar with and hope someone here could help me out. It's a DP-4530 that will quite often restart itself, saying nothing but "Scan Disk" on the Workio screen while it restarts. The restarting seems to occur at random times. It also has a toner dumping problem where it dumps a pretty good amount of toner on to the front and rear of the tansfer corona with a small pile also gathering on the lip of the drum unit. The toner dumps enough to where the paper carries it onto the fuser, causing buildup which leads to J33 and J40 jams.

I've updated the firmware, did a shipment set/parameter initialize and also reformatted the hard disk to try to help with the restarting. For the toner leaking, I've put in a different drum unit with a new drum and blade, new corona wires since the copier has 124K, and checked the waste toner tube, which seems to be working fine. If anyone has a sure-fire way to check the waste toner system on these, I'd be happy to hear it, though. It does have OEM toner in it as well, if that makes a difference in these.

I have a brand new hard disk for it, but I'd like to get the toner dumping taken care of before making the company spend the insane amount of money for the hard disk. Thanks for any tips you can give.

i've had that fault b4 but it was caused by a broken corona wire (Primary)

also was getting E3-10 & E3-40 when viewing the report in F8

print the info report in f9 and see if there is any E codes that may show when the machine reboots

i've had a similar fault on the DPc range where i've had 3 hdd failures which caused the machine to reboot then shows scan disk,

also had a colour machine that kept rebooting when the hdd was attached the cause of it was the SC (main) board

i would go with the hdd 1st tbh, lmk how u go

Main Corona shorting out can give you this problem.
Had it once before on a DP-4510.

Your problem is probably with the toner support mylar (below the cleaning blade)
this leaks toner on the drum sensors under the drum (E-3 40),drum must be removed to remove mylar and clean sensors in a pinch i have used scoth tape to pull out the mylar untill i get back with the part but dont let the tape touch the drum also this can give you E-3 10/11 if toner has built up on the corona

as far as the colour m/c goes it seems you have solved the problem but i had one that gave me trouble as far as turning off and rebooting every 30 sec or so and before i got into the machine (it was 4:30 on a friday) i thought what if its the on off
switch on the left side of the copier (relay switch i call it) and i bypassed it and that fixed the problem untill i returned ,now you must know how to take out the display
to get to the swith i just thought i would mention this as i thought it was the hard drive at first thought

Anthony, There's 3 things you need to do! first is after u did the firmware update, do a f6-99 and install fresh dv, run f8-09!! 2nd is set f6-26 which is the atdc level to 0, then f6-21 to -53 that will stop the leaking!! what u did to the hard drive should have fixed the restarting problem...Hope this helps...Dukey

thats interesting, how did u come to the idea its the front on/off switch

i would have gone for the hdd 1st them memory and sc board after that lol

That will get rid of the toner spilling problem. But the original problem from the toner spilling is from overtoning. If the machine is in a humid environment they will often quantum and adjust the toner density levels to match the environment their in. Take for instance when monsoon season hits you wanna make sure to de-tone the machine asap because the moisture will cause the developer to go bad then eventually cause your drum to go bad because of the shotty developer.

As far as adjusting the TDC and Blk density gains after you do the Dev change... DON'T. The Developer from the factory is good after you do the initial F8-09. After you do the F8-09 Make sure you do a F8-14. Adjusting the developer after you do F8-09 is VERY BAD and will cause you to have different issuses with the new developer you just installed. Depending on the area your installing in the numbers for your F6-21 reading should be anywhere in the -30 to -50 range. And F6-26 should usually be 0 or 1. I hope this was helpfull to you.

Hey Tom, I'm alittle off here! I was referring to a newer model, which has same problem, but deferent f mode settings!! My 8060 series has same dumping/overtoning and the settings are alittle different, i'm pasting it here for all to see, didn't mean to cause confusion or anything else but alittle help. 4. Verify or update the firmware to the latest version. (3.09 or higher).

5. Set F5-24 to 0 (Even if it is set to 1, it will not effect copy quality on 80 series machines).
If you are changing the developer at this time, perform F8-09 to both mix the developer and reset the Developer counter. All Developer must be removed from the Developer Unit before adding new Developer.

6. Set F6-21 to -55 (If the original value of F6-21 was "0", please input all values of F5/F6 to match the values on the label posted inside paper tray 2).

7. Set F6-62 to 0.

8. If the machine has been experiencing any fuser jams we recommend the following:
Set F6-07 to 10 (This will create a 2.5mm lead edge void).
Set F5-74 to 0 (This will allow the fuser web to advance at a rate of once every 10 copies).

I have had several hard drives go down on othere older models and the machines will go down on start up( as the hard drive starts up) as i say I was very very lucky i guess as you probably know you can get those older model up and running buy just unpluging the hard drive i realy like these machines they have few problem ( a few transfer belts have ripped but now they are like 10,000%

Totally agree m8, great machine's

i've had a few hdd's also and ripped i.t belts, and a few E4-14's & E3-22's but all older models but got to agree with how good they r. Build quaility is 10/10
