[CQ] Ricoh MP C2000 fell over during transport, now bad quality

I had a customer who had moved the machine in a truck, and the machine tipped over, most of the damage is to the right side door/duplex, 2nd transfer/separation section. I had to tweak the hinges on the door and re-attach the 2nd transfer, but was able to get it all closed up and running.

See examples of quality problem, Drums all seem intact, transfer looks good, there isnt any damage to the rear section, but to me, the problem seems like it might be electrical. Im thinking drums are losing ground, charge leak, or there is a short to ground somewhere. I can stop the machine during image creation and drums are coated with toner/developer.

I've also cheated the right side door to ensure the 2nd transfer isn't shorting against anything.

Let me know what you think.

I think your customer bought a new machine.

I wouldn't spent a lot of time trying to trouble shoot this situation. Have your customer call their insurance company explaining what happened. They should be covered be covered other than their deductible. Write estimate simply as repair is more than the machine is worth. And other parts may need to be replaced from it being dropped once you tear into it.

He only paid $100 and was going to use it as a backup, so at least he doesn't have a lot invested into it at this point.

I might just tell him to cut his loses, but it would be nice to figure out what is going on here.

At least i have a parts machine in case i get any leads.

Does it look like this sample from a Kyocera KM-255C? This was caused by a broken developer spacer, and the resulting erosion of the drum coating. Black drum and developing unit solved this one, but you can get the same result from any color shorting out the HVT.

(taps is playing) it cost them $100, and by the print sample the repairs will cost over $1000 just for T&M............ sharpen the knife and cut the losses.....

I'd bet you a cup of coffee the frame of that machine is bent. It really doesn't take much of that type of damage to mis-align all sorts of things in the machine, which will cause the machine to operate in any number of undesirable ways.

If it fell over, it's DONE. End of story.

if this is like the aficio AP 3800 family, the power supply had heavy components on it and the board is thin and poorly attached to the frame. i had a customer that managed to let one also tip over. after chasing my tail, i discovered that the power supply board was cracked. i rewired the broken traces and it worked fine. that one was throwing fuser errors. I had a similar problem, I managed to get it working, unfortunately he couldn't be able to use the scanner again.
I mentioned to him about the cost associated, he decided to use it as a network printer instead.

Thanks you for all your feedback.

I recommended to the customer that he cut his loses. Besides the quality issue from the fall, fuser belt needs to be replaced, drums are all over yield, and bias transfer section would need to be replaced, so it was not worth fixing.

I love the Bob Marley. i have a customer with the HP M475 color MFP copier that wont stop jamming. they call it Bob Marley. unfortunately, they put it in storage and they now have 4 others that are doing the same thing. must be in the same band? i have a post on this site for help with that again but no advice so far.
