I pull out the fuser all the time with the machine on, power is cut as soon as you open the right door so shouldnt case an issue.

You could try booting up with the latest firmware on an SD card also try disconnecting the HDD

HDD failure, if you can get it into service mode you might be able to do an HDD reformat then reboot, if it comes ready download the stamp data and see how it goes. You will lose the address book and docs in doc server. if you can get to the WIM prior to wiping HDD you can possibly backup the address book to reinstall. I cant remember if this model boots with the HDD disconnected you can try that you wont have doc server or addresses but it verifies the problem is with HDD. I will say every please wait screen i have had no matter the model without an actual code has been an HDD problem. I would bring a spare HDD with you and try all the above, I would also go ahead and bring the latest firmware with you. Back up the address book if you can before doing anything with the machine.

On a side note make sure you reboot with the ethernet and fax lines disconnected before troubleshooting the HDD once and only once i saw a machine stall like that because of a shorted out hub causing network problems to the controller.

Could be hdd, also connector of F.U. damaged or F.U. not properly set?
It's not an issue if you don't unplug or switch of the machine before you remove the F.U., i never do that either.
Please don't blame your technician, if you want to keep him happy.

This is kind of a long shot, but you may want to check the quality of the power supplied by the outlet the machine is plugged into. Used to be common practice for older Canon fax machines to unplug them for around 5 minutes if they got hit with a voltage surge, the power supply would cause the machine to be locked up until that was done. Stupid machines with no off switch.
