    Can you empty these tanks?

I would not do that. You will stand in a ugly cloud of toner dust.
Ricoh did not make a hole to empty them.

Yes remove the four screws on the top and the tape that seals around the edge you will need to replace the tape afterwards I use Electrical tape .

Yes as above, BUT the screw and coupling are more delicate than those of the past. I had a client get wise and empty one and the drive coupling failed shortly thereafter resulting in a totally bound up waste toner system.

Ricoh wants these replaced, not emptied. They are supposed to be a customer replaced item now.

I use 3M vacuum cleaner in emptying the waste toner box.

If you empty them - empty it fully & reset the counter as I'm informed it can screw the waste section up I.e it overfills the waste, takes out the drums, belt, waste coil. We advise customers don't touch it just order a spare.

i haven't witnessed it yet but I've been told it happens when it's partly emptied to get working.

it is easier to tape the shutter open and just empty it out then untape the shutter.

I empty them but it's definitely more of a pain than the older style. If you don't tape the shutter open you can get waste toner all over yourself in a heartbeat - and trying to vacuum them will kill a filter for me almost immediately.

I had a customer break off the WT full actuator on the top, WT then backed up & damaged all 4 drums.

They are only cheap & hold a lot of waste so don't need replacing too often I just keep a couple spare in the car.

If the customer calls up with the waste toner near full message just ship a new one out & tell them how to fit it, simple.
