Ricoh naming convention?

Four about 12 years now I've been a Ricoh tech. In those years I've only referred to the machines by either their model name or product code.

Lately, since joining this site, I've seen several names associated with different models. Names such as Uranus (C1224) or Adonis (not even really sure of the model). The only one I've ever myself seen assigned a name was the Phoenix series.

Where do you folks get these names from, out of curiosity. Is this something from the Ricoh only training or what? When I think back I've attended many schools for Ricoh, most of which were supplied by Ikon training staff and only one have I attended taught by Ricoh instructors, the Phoenix series.

Can't wait to responses, and also to compile a list for my own personal uses, hehehe!!

These naming conventions you mentioned are new to me as well, and I too will be interested in finding out.

I used to work or Ricoh products and thought the product code was the best way to identify a particular machine. For some reason that never really caught on among techs. I rarely work on Ricohs anymore.

I am now a Toshiba technician and we name certain 'family' of products after rivers. Such as the Rio Grande series, for example, would refer to a certain group of alike machines.

I'm fairly fluent in the Sharp (they use feline and astronomical names), and Copystar/Kyocera Mita (it's a mixed bag), but the only Ricoh nomenclature I know is the old analog Phoenix Series which I'm trying very hard to forget. =^..^=

Forget? I loved the Phoenix series, lol. Of course, i also like hot weather and high humidity at the same time, and the way a women looks when fully clothed (??keep laughing??)

The Ricoh machines have always had names. From the older colors that were named after flowers (Lilly, Azalea etc) but they keep changing them planets and now cocktails. The NRG people in Europe work with 3 or 4 different brands so can have 3 different numbers for the same model so just tend to use the design name.
But, not sure the Katana fits in as it is a sword.

I think we all know why the c1224 was called Uranus...

I really think it would help if this naming convention was used stateside also. Our rep never seems to know which machine you talk about until you tell him the segment or get him in front of it.

By the way Aficio 2105 is a B071, the reason for his is simple, as Ricoh has so many brands to deal with like: nashuatec, savin, gestetner, lanier, rex rotary, ifotec, the only way possible was to create a model code that would suite all brands, Service manuals, parts manuals and parts stock management. the design name, come since ever: the Condor; eagle; falcon; kingfisher; grand kingfisher; thunderbird; bantam; swallow; penguin; plover; skylark, and then the digital, Azalea; lilly; A193-Adam-Aficio 200; NAD and so on. this was nice to remember the oldies, hehehe

product names

they have always given model numbers depending on label (Rex-rotary, gesetetner, lanier, ricoh and so on) but now they are giving a universal naming structure e.g. mp1350, mpc3500, mp5000, to avoid confusion.
but i still refer to the model name (appolen, athena, katana, kir, alex)
as these seem to be more universal than any other naming convention
my manuals have the feature of searching by product code so i always find
the correct one first time.

OK, here's another twist...

It would be nice to not only have the engineering names, but the "release dates" as well. F'rinstance 05A, 07S, etc...

Many machines are referred to this way, and I can find no other reference.
