There seems to be quality issues with the new line of laser units, as seen in the posts above. We have had MPC2003 fail with laser issues and even new replacement parts ex Ricoh fail out of the box!


Does not bode well.... thats all i will say for now.

The 03's are a POS. Short life drums, terrible ITB cleaning unit design, lack of grease everywhere it is needed (esp. scanner assembly), polygon noise and failures, fuser grinding & ripping from new/way before PM, DF belts ripping from new, DF just stops for no reason (have it on almost all models)... etc etc... Sometimes makes me pine for the 6501's, sometimes.

We've put literally 100's of the "03" series out & no real issues at all, in my opinion a great model!
However yesterday on a 2 week on machine I had an SC816 error turned out to be the HDD, but as Ricoh don't make the disks cant blame them!

Keeping the firmware up to date also sorts out many issues.

Did the failed HDD have security encryption software installed on it ?

We had a HDD on a brand new machine fail two weeks after install.
The only thing we believe different from other new machines was the encryption on the HDD.
I installed a new HDD with same encryption and no problem ever again, go figure!...

No encryption installed, I put the drive into a USB caddy & Windows couldn't format it, was also making a clicking sound.

Drive is toast. If it is the first ninety days after purchase from Ricoh, they should replace under warranty. If not look at the drive manufacturers label for make, model and size a buy an equivalent drive on line.
