[CQ] mpc6003 uneven density black only

i have a mpc 6003 with only 20k on the clock with a slight weak black one side of the page.

i have noticed this problem on most 03's

cyan magenta and yellow are all perfect apart from the black

anyone have any idea??

One or both of two things:

1. Dirty laser shield glass
2. Misalignment of PTR to ITB. Less pressure between one end or the other of the roller and the ITB. I have one 6003 with this problem. I have a new PTR section but the customer is not complaining (I noticed the problem during a service call for jamming) so I am holding the part until I definitely to use it

Has this drum unit been replaced recently

If it was the PTR then it would be doing this on all colours


today i visited a mpc3003 and the black quality is the same. Tiny white dots.

Drum unit has not been changed. Its only done 20k colour and 5k b/w

ash, how old is the machine? Could it have one of the original faulty batch of pcu's? Ricoh shipped complete PCDU's to dealers when the problem was identified but I'm sure there will be many of the them still out there.

i'd start by removing & separating the drum & dev units, look at the dev unit, see if there's any visible uneven coating etc

Reassemble the units you may find the fault has cleared.

Also check the machine is level & in the correct environment, temp doesn't drop too low at night etc.

i dont know how old this machine is but it was only installed 2 months ago

just an idea... empty the contents of the dev unit then poor the same contents back in again

There are issues with the fuser units mpc3002 3003: black smear only occurs, even when printing full color! So... the problem is not so easy... You might want to know that the ITB moves away from color pcu's when printing black only... So it might just be possible that there is a (uneven) height problem with the ITB and his black pcu...
