B222 EFI - Blurred Line at Trail Edge

Heys folks, I have a Savin 3535 that is producing a blurred line on the trail edge of the prints when printing on 80lb Cover (216g/m2) {business cards}. The machine has just over 335k, total prints, and the customer states that she has always been able to run this paper using the Thick 1 setting from tray 1. I suggested to her to use the Thick 2 setting and run the paper from the by-pass, which is what the machine calls for. She called me back the next day and said it worked great.

A few days later, she called back saying that it was doing it again, but now it was very random. Out of 100, she noticed that 10 or so would have the blurred line on the trail edge.

I went out today and rebuilt her fuser and found that the tension roller had put a nice crease (or bump, however you want to look at it) on the belt. I told her to run some business cards and see if it helps and if not, then I would come back out and adjust the fuser speed.

What I am thinking of doing is adjusting the Thick 3 setting and have her run the 80lb cover through the by-pass. This will limit the number of prints she can make on the heavy stock, in one setting, as well as allowing her to use the Thick 2 settings as she normally does, with her other paper types.

    What do you guys think?

Does this mean the blurred line was side to side (as I assume it is) or did it line up with the crease in the fuser belt?

Another option would be to run the media in the opposite direction (short edge vs. long edge). Is it possible one of the perforations is folding slightly causing the blur?

On paper it sounds like adjusting the fusing speed will work. I'm assuming your thought is that there is slack in the paper as it enters the fuser and increasing the fuser speed will take up the slack, so to speak.

Don't you love the "we've always run this before and didn't have any problems" line? Almost as good as the "that's the only reason we got this machine" and "the salesperson said it would do this" line.
the savin2535 is displaying well bet the hiter lamp is not shining and the lamp had been tested o.k.please kindly help.
Samir: No, not again. I... why does it say paper jam when there is no paper jam? I swear to God, one of these days, I just kick this piece of shit out the window.

I think you might have linked to the thumbnail instead of the full size pic.

          Much, much better.

I'm not real familiar with this model. But, that blur sure looks like something I've seen when the trailing edge of the paper 'pops' out from the registration roller, if it were going thru the machine LEF.

Sorry about the link guys... I was posting this just as we were shutting down yesterday afternoon so, "My Bad!".

Anyway, that is exactly what I think it is also Scott. And yes Cobiray, she was feeding the stock Long Edge. I didn't even think to feed it in the other direction, but if the blur line is from the stock "popping out of the reg roller", I'm not sure if that would really help. I am going back today and work with the fuser speed for the Think 3 mode and go from there.

            Thanks guys!

I know no one likes to hear this, but maybe try some different stock, i.e. different brand or whatever. Just a thought

Hey guys... I got it fixed this morning. I blame myself for this, because I took the customers word on the problem and did not investigate it more than I did.

Come to find out, the blur was "not" on the trail edge, but was actually on the lead edge. When I realized that, I repositioned the screws on the fuser entrance guide plate up so that the plate could be moved. I moved the guide plate down, in the direction of the pressure roller. This solved the problem. I made close to 100 prints on 80lb cover without a single blur. Then I ran some 65lb cover as well as plain 24lb, which the customer uses normally. Everything worked great!

So! Chalk this one up as a valuable lesson relearned!

I do hate it when I ignore the obvious fix for the complex fixes. Glad I'm not the only one who does that from time to time.
