aficio 551 adf problem

i have a aficio 551 out in the field that is putting a solid straight line on the edge of the copy. it only happens on the first copy through the ADF. any ideas

Do you know if any adf registration or margin adjustments have been made? Print out the SMC report and see if anything is too far out of adjustment.

i have checked the smc and everything looks ok.

Is it the lead edge of the page? How are the edge erase settings? Is it from all trays? LEF and SEF?

it is the leading edje of the page. it happens out of every single tray. i rsaw somewhere that it could be the adf board i think that i saw it in a tech bullentin.

Forgive me if you've done this, but have you replaced the feed components, reverse roller & torque limiter? Cleaned the non reflectors and paper path sensors?

I only found one TSB on the ADF.

Rainex is not just for your windshield

fold a piece of paer in half. squirt a little from the smallest 2 dollar bottle of rainex you can find at the auto parts store. spread it all over and fan for 1/2 minute to dry and polish with the same paper. Fixes lots of reg problems on the big belt digitals. An Af 551 operator taught me this trick

I just use 6 drops of light machine oil and spread it on the glass until I see more oil streaks.

As well as a oil or polish on the platen glass (also make sure the glass is up the right way)

I open up the area where paper feeds on to the platen glass.

With a puffer brush puff out all the paper dust and gunk i can. Clean up the transport rollers.

As well as cleaning the sensors in the feed area and feed tyres.

Problem is solved in many cases.

Also check the drive of the df unit that clips out is not spliting or even worse another engineer has performed a bodge job on it. part

On this ADF the original is fed onto the glass ond then reversed onto the scale. If the ADF is not butting it up correctly this would give a line.
I once had a problem like this and it turned out to be someone had replaced the ADF PCB and not done the ADF auto speed adjustment.

If the first copy off the glass also does the same thing, then the scanner pulley set screw could be either loose, missing or broken.
