You now basically have a mostly blank SD card. You need to get a new PS card that has not been used in another machine.

We have a stack of old java, PS, printer cards etc at the shop, I whipe em, peel the label off, and use them for firmware updates.

Me too! They always work after all. I've found it doesn't hurt to have four of them on hand, how many do you usually carry?

I have found that due to their capacity they are good for one or two firmware modules only. Most of them are either 64 MB or 128 MB. I like to use a 500 MB or 1 GB for older models and a 2 GB for all the newer models.

The java one I have is about 512mb. Which is fine for me, the whole thought of putting firmware for different machines on the same card gives me the heebie jeebies even if it's supposed to be fine.

I never put more than one machine on a card at a time. What I have encountered is that with some of the newer models, you cannot fit all the modules for single machines on anything smaller than 256MB and if you want to also load the package firmware on the same card, 512MB is the minimum that will work.

I do this too, I also remove the security encryption cards too, but again they are only 120mb so only good for older machine firmware.
What exactly is the security encryption unit card for anyway!?

Encrypts all files stored on the MFP so that anyone wishing to open them will need the encryption key.

But did the post script option still work after? My bet is that it didn't. Ricoh wouldn't make it that east to remove the protections.

Yes it did. This method cleared the message and also allowed PS to work. I confirmed using the PS driver on my work PC (Win7 Pro 64 bit) and my personal Macbook (os 10.7 - need to upgrade the poor guy) to print.
