      Newest firmware should prevent this. Fax ver6.0 firmware, but update all firmwares for the machine to be sure.

              I'd go back to updating the firmware, and see if that clears it up.

              ....couldn't hurt.

                As has been mentioned, update the Firmware. SC899 is just a software error that any number of things can cause. Printing from a Browser causes it a lot and a PCL firmware updates mostly fixes that. It's possible for hardware to be the cause, but it's rare.

                In regards to SC899 on an MP C5501, some examples;
                System 2.04 fixed;
                SC899 occurs while the machine is scanning a document for to create a "HighCompression PDF" file.

                Printer 1.04;
                Anything that causes the MFP to NACK (Negative Acknowledgement) (such as a paperjam or staple/punch out of position) during the submission of an IPDS job might result inan SC899 error.

                Fax 6.0;
                SC899 may occur during FAX function is in use

                Plus several other issues fixed in other Firmware versions.

                  Not normally considered part of firmware, but make sure to update Java (if so equpped), too.

                  Even if you have no apps installed, Java can cause SC899.

                  We had that happen on a bunch of SP model printers (the exact model number escapes me), that kept throwing SC899.

                  Normally printers don't have Java, but these did, and they were purchased that way for future expansion.

                  Once we updated Java, the problem stopped. (Of course, that was after updating ALL the other firmware.)

                    If it has a Java card, just uninstall it, you are probably not using it anyways.

                      Just remember to go into user tools and stop JAVA. If you remove the JAVA card without first stopping JAVA, you risk cratering the controller board when you turn the machine back on.
