[CQ] SPC252 patchy black & white prints

Colour prints & copies are fine, but mono prints/copies are faded halfway down the page. Fitted a new black toner/drum unit and fault still the same. Copy or print in magenta, cyan or yellow and the quality is good, it's just the black which is poor?

Anyone had any experience of this?

Could be the transfer belt unit. I had a C252 that that black seemed to fade in and out but the colors were fine. Did the same things you did and it did not resolve until I replace the transfer belt unit. At least they are fairly cheap and easy to do. Print out a maintenance page which should have bands of all four colors around the edges and post it up here.

First check that the toner save function is disabled for the copy mode as it does dramatically effect the density of copy output.
(It can be enabled just for copying, and most techs miss it).

Failing that check out the white plate under the scanner unit glass.

The glue separates between the glass and white plate causing it to look / go grey.
Hence when you power the machine on and the optics automatically calibrate against the white plate it receives poor feedback and you get crap quality copying.
