    MP4000 scan to folder

I wonder if anyone has any ideas...

We have a Ricoh MP4000 which WAS scanning to folder but no longer is.

I have tried setting it up again and I can access the folder and test the connection from the machine but when I scan I get a file created with 0kb size...

I have updated the firmware to the latest for the machine and been told no windows updates have been made...

I am now at a loss..

    Anyone got any ideas?

    Thanks

    Zero file size is interesting....

I assume that all communications work fine just that you receive a zero file size into the scan directory. MFD NIC has blinking LED's?
Does everything print out fine? So you have proper coms over Ethernet, or is it a WIFI network?

    Is the scan method:
scan to folder (SMB) local PC or server share ?
    scan to email?
    scan to ftp?
Have you tried different scan methods other than scan to folder ?

    Try resetting your modem/router.
    Sounds like a switch/router issue.
Have you updated your network speed settings, handshake/throttle issue?
    Maybe a WIFI network issue?

What has been changed or updated just recent?
    I.T. done something?
Firewall locked down Port 445 NetBIOS over TCP/IP ??? (smb)

      Re: MP4000 scan to folder

I saw something like this on a Toshiba eS452. Faxes were being forwarded to an SMB folder. At one point it stopped working so our IT re-worked the setup on the MFP side. At that point the forwarded faxes did create pdf files of 0KB which naturally do not open.

The share folder that was receiving the fax receptions was 7 sub-folders down, and had not been changed in 7 years, and thousands of fax receptions being written and deleted. With the promise that I would not change the folder structure in any way, I created a new share folder 2 sub-folders down, and re-worked the MFP setup ... and it worked perfectly.

It turned out that there was something corrupt about the folder and/or folder structure. I did not change the original folder or it's structure, and it's probably still there languishing, corrupt. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

        Re: MP4000 scan to folder

I am using scan to folder (SMB)

I have tried scanning to a shared folder on the server and also setup a shared folder on another PC on the network, the result is the same.. file created with 0kb size and eventually the machine throws a failed error..

IT are adamant they have made no changes on the network..

The only other issue I saw was being unable to access the machine via a web browser.. and yet I can ping the machine and print to it fine..

Normally I would look to firmware, but that was the first thing I did and has had no effect.

        Thanks

Did you update ALL the firmware files or just the main ones?

              Re: MP4000 scan to folder

Old machine new Firmware. SMBv1 changes over to SMBv2-3.
What operating system is the MFD communication with?

              Net authentication failure .....?
I'd learn toward the wrong subnet octect but your already communicating with WIM.
What is the exact message on the MFD display ?

Corrupt address book , HDD fault ?
User name & password in the address book correct ?
See if you can save the address book an upload it again.
Try resetting the NSC and reinitialise the address book.

No DNS, gateway ? Hostname glitch...?
Are you using DHCP or fixed IP on the MFD?
Try telnet to MFD and set port 445 up. It might jog something.

Plug a laptop and cross over cable into the MFD and scan to your Laptop as a test.

A zero byte file can also be caused by a firewall or anti-virus software blocking the SMB communication.

                  Hi

                  Something weird is definitely happening..

I cannot access the copier via a browser either..

I plugged my laptop into the copier and can view it with a web browser... didn't try scan to folder..

So, am confident something on the network has changed, but nobody has any idea what...

BOLD. This may fix the issue without effecting the scanning from other machines. If it does not work run the same again but make the "1" a "0" and the "445" a "139" and it will be back to default. Cycle the power after word. Be sure to tap "logout" after changing the settings and typing "yes" at the end to save the settings after logout.
                    msh> smb client auth
                    -Displays the current setting
                    msh> smb client auth 1
                    -Enables NTLMv2
                    msh> logout
                    -Saves data
                    Setting value Result
0 (default) SMB client uses NTLM/LM authentication.
1 SMB client uses NTLMv2/NTLM/LM authentication.
Authentication level setting: The device will use only one protocol with the priority that is the highest among the available protocols. The priorities are listed in the table below. The device cannot switch between them automatically.
                    Priority Authentication
                    Level 0 (default) Level 1
                    High

                    Plain Text LAN Manager
                    N/A Plain Text
The SMB port can be changed via Telnet:
                    msh> smb client port
                    -Displays the current setting
                    msh> smb client port 445
                    -Changes port number

                    msh> logout
                    -Saves data

                    Setting value Result
139 (default) SMB client uses port 139 port
445 SMB client uses port 445 port (normally required after server is patched)

Give the copier a restart after these changes, and see how you go. Let me know if there are any issues.

                    Kind regards,

Have to agree that firewall/anti-virus will be the cause of this.

We have a similar issue with our internal firewall when downloading firmware files - all looks roses but the firewall has stripped out a file causing the firmware to fail.

Hmm - bugger, didn't work on port 445 with NTLM v2 set etc. eh?

Have you guys seen this from Petri:

Microsoft has already made several important changes regarding SMB1 and Windows 10 that are listed below:
                          • All Home and Professional editions now have the SMB1 server component uninstalled by default. The SMB1 client remains installed. This means you can connect to devices from Windows 10 using SMB1, but nothing can connect to Windows 10 using SMB1. We still recommend you uninstall SMB1 if you are not using it. In a later feature update of
                          • Windows 10, we may uninstall SMB1 client if we detect that you are not using it.
                          • All Enterprise and Education editions have SMB1 totally uninstalled by default.
                          • The removal of SMB1 means the removal of the legacy Computer Browser service. The Computer Browser depends exclusively on SMB1 and cannot function without it.

                            Hi

No, I tried the settings you provided and even tried each setting with each port.. to no avail.

The client PC's are all running Windows 7 and the server is 2012... so no Windows 10 issues.. and I cannot image SMB1 being uninstalled across the network.. unless there was some kind of network policy update.. which I will check.

At a loss now... may have to try another machine just to confirm it is a network issue...

You can easily rule out their network by plugging in your laptop direct to the copier (bypass their network) create shared folder etc & see if that will scan a PDF larger than 0KB!?
