C3502 making high pitched noise while idle

A customer called about this a few minutes ago. I've asked her to record it. Has anyone ever heard of something like this? I haven't...

If the noise is still present while the machine is in sleep mode it could be some sort of coil or transformer whine from the power board. If it's only active while the machine is awake I'd check the fans.

Best bet to run through all the moving things in output check (minus the fusing sleeve) and see if you can get it to change or repeat.

If the sound is when idle most likely a fan or could be the HDD bearing failing.

Too much speculation without hearing it, could be anything. However, I could say what are the most likely, based on past mpc's noises. Most common, noisey squealing pcu, generated from worn cleaning blade on the drum or a seized bearing on the drum shaft. Rotate each drum by hand, it will be obvious, which one is the culprit. Seized bearing on the fuser, or finaly, laser noise.

Check filters and fans and if good try to recreate how/when it gets loud

                  Tinfox,
Did you ever find the solution for this? I think I may have the same noise. Only occurs during warm-up/ idling. Really high-pitched constant sound. Have checked the fans in output mode with none of them making the noise, removed exit section and cleaned/lubed shafts/ bushings. Lubed the P.R. Bearings and drive gear bearings in fuser, and replaced fuser sleeve. Had a torn transfer belt, so I replaced that and while I was in there lubed all the bushings in transfer unit. This one is driving me NUTS!!

I've had the spring plates in the paper exit do exactly what you're saying. Took me hours to figure out. I attached a file with the parts highlighted if it loads. If not it's on page 126 of the 3502 parts manual. Hope this helps.

I had 1 last week that keep making a high pitch noise during idle and it ended up being the hard drive.

Ahhh. That's probably it. They haven't called to complain since I went out. Hopefully it fixed itself. Lol

When I go back out I'll make sure to bring a HD..

                        Thanks!

warming up / idling will cause parts to move more quickly than in printing mode.
Is customer complaining only for that reason?
That is about 1 minute every day...

Yes, customer is only complaining about that. It occurs pretty frequently, much more than a minute a day. Some customers either can't hear those noises, or just don't give a damn. Then there are customers like this one that hear the slightest chirp, and assume the machine is going to BLOW UP or something. I'll be going back with hard drive, and to try the other Exit unit thing mentioned on here.
