    Ricoh MPC3501

Hi. We have a Ricoh MP C3501 that thinks there is no paper in tray one after a jam. All the others are clear. I called Ricoh and they no longer of a repair center in this area. Anybody have any idea if there is something easy I can check? Some way to bypass it? Thank you!

sounds like the paper tray sensor is out of place or broken.

are you sure that the tray has the specified size/type in it that the computer thinks it has?

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, it has the right size. Would you mind telling me where the paper sensor is so I replace it or make sure it's in place? I'm pretty handy. I'm guessing it either got broken or moved when we cleared the jam.

pull the tray.. up near the feed rollers are the sensors.

you say the SIZE is correct... what about TYPE of paper?

Thanks. Sensors look clean. Type is plain on both. It just keeps saying it's empty. I hate to be a pain, do you know how I could get the part number for the sensor? Not seeing it here.

If you have this load paper message after a jam as you say, check there is no paper jammed behind the tray very common issue.

The paper trays lift out, best to remove all four, pull each fully forward then up & forward to remove.

I would say if you broke something pulling out a jam,
              you need a tech.

On these old type paper feed units the front part of the housing for the sensor breaks and you can't clip the sensor flag back in place.
Usually the fix is to replace the paper feed unit.
Since the xx03 range the paper feed unit has been redesigned and the flag CAN be reset by a user.

If this uses the same paper size switch as the C2050 etc, one section of the 4 position switch that had to do tray closed would cause this. They're the same switches as use on B/W models such as 1027, 2027 etc. I had a lot of machines in high dust areas so carried the switches with me.

It'll be that feeler I reckon.
The front side plastic housing breaks and you can't refit it to the paper feed assy.

hi, I agree with what others have written, I do not have this model around, but the images of the piece make me think that the paper feed unit is similar to that of the MPC2500, could also have just released from the seat, when it was extracted drawer the jammed paper has hooked it badly, with a little good hand you could probably be able to put it back in place without removing the unit from the machine, check the second drawer to compare how the part works to realize, good work .... ps it happened to me a few times
