Ricoh MP4500 Jamming in duplex unit every copy

    Hi there
This one is a new one on me, the paper jams in the duplex tray when doing a single double sided copy although previously it worked for up to 30 copies or more.

Because it was jamming occasionally all I did was clean the feed roller just before the registration sensor before it goes back into the machine as this was what I suspected was causing the paper to slip. I have now cleaned all rollers and sensors too but it wont do a single double sided copy/print. It doesnt arrive at the sensor by the way it stops just before in the tray.

I hope im not being too facetious but please only reply if you know the machine as I dont want to try this that and the other, I really need to hear from someone who has had this problem

My own opinion is the feed rollers may need to dry thoroughly although of course they werent exactly wet when I tried the machine again.

The first thing I will do when I go back tothis job is try it to see if it starts working of course :-)

Calling all Ricoh experts out there ....please help

If you don't want to try this that and the other, you should probably call a tech that will try this that and the other to get it fixed. We don't know what causes the problems before we go look at the machine, we go start checking things till we find the problem. What is the jam code? Did you check the sensor in I/O mode?

First question, as always, what is the jam code?

        Hi again

The jam code is J023 and I have also checked the sensors and they all seem to be working ok

Static tests on sensors are useless as they do not show how the sensors will preform in dynamic operation.

"Trying this and that" is called troubleshooting around these parts.
Maybe call a technician to DO that troubleshooting for you so you can get back to your skinny mocha ?

                Hi Oze
I have already accepted in an earlier reply that I may alienate engineers by not requiring suggestions from folk who dont know the machine which is not my desire .
This is only my 2nd post and I did not realise this was against the protocol if at all it is ? I simply wanted a quick answer without trying this and that but in so doing I overlooked the fact that sometimes we all have to try this and that !

Mind you despite my 30 years experience I have no problem paying an Engineer and I do from time to time but the engineers I know dont want to look at the machines I struggle with because they know theyy have their work cut out for them-lol

By the way what does skinny mocha mean? If it is what I think it is ...that's another good reason to call someone else on a tricky job so one can get on with something else

At the moment after trying this and that the code is now J013 and I have managed to get a copy with the guide plate middle actually out!!(put it back in and it jamms )

Hi thanks for that, but after even more fiddling about the code has changed to J013!

Incidentally, I am able to get a copy out by removing the middle guide plate ...really strange but I cant get a duplex copy out with it in

Wrong guide plate or not in correctly.

Old machine. I'm trying to mentally picture the machines duplexer....

Does it only jamb in the duplexer when using the top tray only ?
Do all other trays work fine ie. no duplexer jamb?

                        Hi there
Thanks but that is not the case ....I tried the whole unit in another machine and it actually worked so it seems the problem is on the machine .... if you to try to copy without the guide apparently it is possible but obviously it will jam at some point so maybe that point has little or no significance I suppose.

I will go back to the original machine and I actually expect it to work otherwise it must be something on tge machibe itself

Hi I did not try a4r tray but now I found the unit worked on another machine in a4 orientation ) ....if it jams on a4r but not a4 im not sure what this will tell me so I dont mind you telling me if you can figure that out but remember it didnt work on the first machine in a4 but worked on the second machine so I am going back to the first machine tomorrow to try it again as it points at the machine itself now. Thanks for your time!
