[Dead] MPC 2504ex BANG!

Has anybody had a similar problem with this model?


User did say it went off while doing a lot of copying

On arrival the machine was dead, No power.

When checking the AC distribution board FU102 was blown, All the other fuses were ok

Anther board was fitted and BANG! Blown again.


Checked whether something was shorting out by a basic live and neutral check against the earth.
My skills on Fault finding at a board level is nil.


No foreign objects


The copier is only 2 months old and we are looking into a warranty issue.
Just curious if anybody has had this kind of issue.

Check voltage coming off the outlet. Had this happen at a customer, big voltage spikes killed the machine. Had an electrician confirm and they corrected the problem.

we had another machine in there for 3 years MPC2503 . no issues.
also a surge plug connected to the main lead.

hello, I took a look on the service manual, go to customer with a few new fuses, remove all the accessories, rdf, finisher, fuser, etc, in particular disconnect the drawer heaters !, and try one at a time, to reconnect them if you are lucky, solve it.however in the manual the f102 gives me as DHB (option) with these new shit manuals do not understand a shit, and the enlarged image is grainy, but I understand that it could be the card that drives the drawer heaters ( ?) good luck, bye

Quick update

Machine back in workshop and in good light can see the possible cause

had to bend it upright to see the shadow on the pcb.
hopefully this is a local problem on the DC power board

hi, that disc-shaped component that you see in the picture looks like a varistor, the burn stain on the photo is exactly in its area, the varistor on the primary should protect from overvoltages in line, not having the wiring diagram or the card in hand , it is very difficult to hypothesize the operation of the circuit, could also be burned the psu, why not! it can happen, but I would use as a reference what the manual on fuse 102 says, try to disconnect from the psu the board that manages the drawer heaters, plus it is the most economical solution, badly you could even leave it without heaters, you also have the risk if you replace the psu to burn even the new one ... a beautiful cat to skin, boy!

When I spoke to Ricoh about this problem they also pointed me towards the drawer heaters, One problem is it doesnt have one.

Its a off the shelf machine without any options fitted.

A Ricoh Specialists has been recomended by ricoh.

May I suggest putting a new fuse, remove PCDU, disconnect harness from PF, remove fusing unit (just to eliminate possible load short circuit) the power it on and close the door. If it power's on, put them back one by one, just to see where the problem is. Just make sure you carry a handful of fuse with you.

UPDATE

Luckly we brought back a MPC2504 from a customer who had a new MPC2504ex installed and we used both AC & DC boards.
Slowly re connected back the connectors and all was well.

So looks like the DC power board was faulty and blowing the AC board fuse

On a good copy test now before it goes back to customer
