does the drum have a shaft that runs thru the middle? try turning it by hand.

are you sure you have the:
    right drum unit?
    in the track correctly?
look in the slot.. see anything blocking travel?

      What happened?
It obviously had a PCU in it? You took it out for some reason? You did something? Now it doesn't fit?

More info because my crystal ball is a little cloudy today

there is a grey plug in the front that needs to come out on this model. i believe its on the left front side. also may need to turn the drum alittle to get it to slide in.

The grey plug only needs to come out for 55/6503, make sure you have re-assembled the PCDU correctly.

Probably should have explained better, this machine has been put on a second floor with awkward access so had document feeder, cassette pedestal, fuser and dev units removed to aid access by lightening the machine and making it a little smaller, it was then carefully carried to its new location, then everything re-installed with the final job being to reinstall the pcdu units, no problem with yellow/magenta/cyan all seemed to fully engage ,however the K drum seems to be about 5mm short of going in, obviously don't want to force anything ,i have checked the unit and can't see anything wrong with it?

This must be something obvious that i'm missing its definatly the K drum, doesn't appear to have a shaft going through it, just the 3 gears i can see.

I've got limited experience on this particular model so I'm not positive, but I think that the Transfer belt may have to be unlocked in order to remove/ install K-PCU

Yes i did release the ITB contact lever in order to remove the black PCDU, but the ITB itself was left in the machine, i have opened the right cover of the machine and opened the paper transfer unit and can see that as the black PCDU approaches the rear of the machine it does not fully engage with the rear drive gears, its almost like one of the 3 dev unit gears is in the wrong position to line up

Remove the three color drums, the Fuser, and the ITB assy to get a better angle on it, and use a good bright flashlight to look in there. Turn the drum a bit to move the gears to a new position. Don't force it, be patient.

Duhhhh damn Must have been wore from spreading gravel that day.. yeah either a door open or a lever disengages the belt (up or down) he got the drums out.. hopefully did't muck the belt up..

OPEN all doors.. look for a lever around the ITB area.. ( might even be diagrammed on the door sticker ) hmmm IS the BELT OUT NOW? follow door instructs...
have you looked at service or even USER guide?

This grey plug is only for the 5503/6003 it is to remind you to release the lube bar spring as per sheet provided with the new PCU.
