MPC305 with SC899 at power up

    Hello!

We have this MPC305 (with NDD Print installed) that issues SC899 at power up, 2 seconds before the Printer icon appears on the screen. It happens roughly 70% of the times the machine is powered up. On SP7403 the detail points to Fax as you can see in the photo. This client isn't using the Fax.

If the machine is powered up and the error doesn't appear, it works ok.

    This is what I've done:
    - Updated all FW
    - Uninstall Java and HDD
    - Uninstall Fax
    - Replaced Controller
    - Ckecked all connectors on the BICU
    - NVRAM Clear
    - Downgraded FCU, FAX, RFAX and System Copy
    - Updated all FW again
    - Disabled DHCP
    - I reinstalled Java, HDD and NDD Print.

SC899 has appeared at least one time after trying all this steps.

Our next step is to replace the BICU. Any other thoughts on this one?

    Thanks

If I recall correctly, I had a B079 that was frequently giving the same sc code, but ONLY while on the network. It turned out that the machine was receiving a print command it could not process (Like sending a postcript command to a machine without postscript). A clear of the server queue took care of the issue.

Have you tried turning on your computer without the network cable in place?
All the SC899 that I have encountered were file problems sent by the user, but this is solved by updating the firmware.

You can try making a Memory Clear from SP Mode.

Have you tried removing the fax board? I know you said you uninstalled the fax, but I don't know if that means you removed the fax board?

Let's try not to do this.

Same experience in that it is usually a print job printed off of a website that has some sort of advertising animation that the copier cannot process. Will it come to ready and be stable with the network cable unplugged? If so, as mentioned, find and delete the problem print job. You can also turn on user authentication long enough for the machine to dump the offending job. That way you do not have to seek it out in a larger network.

All the steps I mentioned were done with the network cable unplugged.

                  I did that.

Mikadonovan I always do a NVRAM backup.

Today we replaced the BICU and NVRAM from the BICU.
For now the machine is working. Lets see what happens tomorrow morning when the customer powers the machine.

                  I'll keep you guys posted.

My colleague recently had a very similar one & in his case as soon as he replaced a controller board, the SC899 went away.

                    hope this help you

                        UPDATE:

SC899 appeared again yesterday morning. I don't know if the detail of the error is the same because we received the auto notification email alert.
We're back to the drawing board...

Slimslob I did all these steps with the network cable disconnected. After each step, the error could appear on the first power up, or after 3 or 4 restarts.

The original BICU and NVRAM from the faulty machine are at our workshop and it has the same error (SC899) with the same detail (FILE: fax).

What kind of print drivers are installed? Have had some success in a few instances where customers had "Ricoh Class"/ "Universal"/ and Universal V4.23 (never heard of this one before?) drivers loaded, or had old drivers loaded for a new/different machine. Changing those drivers to PCL6 helped prevent the code. Had one recently, MP 2352, that would pop SC 899 every morning. For that series there is a Custom firmware that deals specifically with that code, but it does not seem like they have one for the C305. Either way, the firmware didn't help my situation, and I ended up doing a printer memory clear, HDD Format, changing the TLS setting to "Ciphertext/Cleartext", changing the drivers to PCL6, in WIM changed SNTP polling to "when printer is on" and something else that I cant recall (that tech support suggested), and has been MONTHS since a call-back for that code (knock on wood).

I also remember one of our techs had an issue with @remote that was causing his code.
